Make Up Tutorial: Fall 2012 Jewel Tone Eye Shadow
Jewel tones are trending big time right now, whether it be in fashion or beauty! Rich, deep shades like aubergine, oxblood, emerald and sapphire are the 'it' colours this season. Inspired by Jason Wu and Roberto Cavalli's fall 2012 shows, we enlisted our resident make up guru Mandy to give us the 411 on how to wear jewel tones on your eyes.
Done with a dark lip (one of the buzzed about beauty trends off the runway) and intense pigments, this look demands attention for a night out. If you're looking for a more wearable look, opt for soft washes of colour and a nude or pink lip.
Here's the how-to:
Step 1: First, apply any eye shadow primer or base. Next, start in the inner corner of your eye with a magenta or purple shade. Blend this out and bring up just over your crease.
Step 2: Pick up some green colour onto an angle brush and use the angle brush to create a guide line for how far out your shadow will go.
Step 3: Brush on a sheer sweep of green shadow.
Step 4: Using a cotton swab or a thin brush, dust on some gold shadow in the inner corner of your eye and below for highlighting.
Step 5 & 6: If you want a more dramatic look, use deeper shades and more shadow. Use a fluffy blending brush.
Step 7: Going very close to the lash line, lightly use a soft, smudgable black liner for definition and apply a coat of mascara.
