Makeup Transformation: Matching Make Up

Matching your eye shadow to your nails or lips or matching all three together has long been a practice only for those of the old school make up philosophy. These days, matching your eyes to your blush to your lips and even to your nails is not only unnecessary but it can be over the top. However, Christian Dior showed this look on the Spring 2012 runway and we kind of love the polished and put together look.

Make up artist and YouTuber Lisa Eldridge also caught on this trend and put together a tutorial showing how to pull off this monochromatic look, the video is up and posted here. We saw monochromatic fashion become a trend recently, make up just seems to be a natural progression. We decided to give it a try for make up transformation. We took before pictures- with our regular everyday make up and then after pictures with a matchy- matchy palette.

Nail Polish: butter LONDON 3 Free Lacquer in Blagger (US$14.00)
Eye Shadow: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Ammo Shadowbox- used 'Shattered' (US$40.00) and Lancome Color Design Eye Brightening All-In-One 5 Shadow and Liner Palette (C$54.00)
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Sultry Sable (C$6.00)

Nail Polish: Mary Kay Nail Lacquer in Gold Leaf (C$10.00), O.P.I. Bring on the Bling (C$12.00)
Eye Shadow: Coastel Scents 88 Piece Warm Palette (US$18.95)
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Just Enough Buff (C$6.00)

Nail Polish: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Polish in Rapid Red (US$6.99)
Lipstick: Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Red Revival (C$9.29)

Blush: Stila Custom Colour Self Adjusting Blush in Coral (C$26.00)
Lipstick: MAC Mattene Lipstick in Rare Exotic (US$14.50)

What do you think of the matchy-matchy make up? Is this something you'd ever try? Leave us a comment by October 17th for a chance to win! Good luck!

I normally go random with colours on my face and nails, so they hardly match, not even with my clothes

I usually try to match everything up. I think it just looks so much
nicer. It's pretty much the same as wearing accessories that match :)

I'm not into the whole matchy matchy look, but the ladies really pulled it off! I especially love Mandy's bright fuchsia lip shade.

Not such a fan of this look, although I do love Mandy's lip colour!

It looks okay - I prefer a more neutral nail though for the office...

Again like Pipp matching colours: lips and nails or lips and dress (you get what I mean) is too busy! Your eyes go up and down and it's distracting. Colours should complement each other!

I think it looks great! I wouldn't have thought it was too matchy matchy until you would tell me it was the look you were going for. Unless you are sporting fuchsia pink lips and nails, I don't think it's blatantly obvious enough to be OTT. ;)

I would definatelly try it but it's too much work for everyday use...

I like the look and i would try it out, but not all the time.. I too agree that complimentary colors would
look better and pop! Not a big fan of the magenta and blue look, seems a bit dull. But the other two look great! Way way waaaay to much work just thinking about matching this to that. haha :)
