Makeup Tutorial How to Cover a Zit or Coldsore
ChickAdvisor's MJ and Makeup Artist Tracy Peart

Cold Sores may be ugly, but that doesn’t mean you can't look and feel your best even when you have one.  We've rounded up five top makeup artist tips from our new best friend, Tracy Peart on everything from concealing zits and cold sores to other beautifying tricks that you can use to make yourself look like a total babe (even when minor skin-related issues arise).

At ChickAdvisor H.Q, we love Polysporin's Cold Sore Healing Patches for not only helping to conceal but also shorten the lifespan of the eruption with faster healing while reducing that horrible tingly pain. Follow the package instructions to apply the patch smoothly to the skin's surface.  It’s almost completely invisible when applied correctly.  Read our reviews here.

Tip 1: How to ‘Werk’ a Cold Sore Patch

Tracy advises, “I recommend just wearing a bit of lipstick and liner on top of the patch, following your natural lip line.  Because the patch is invisible, you could even get away without putting any concealer on it.  But,” Tracy says, “I recommend using a lipstick instead of a gloss, which might stray off your lips onto the patch.  We can’t have that.”

Tip 2: How to Cover Up a Blemish

“The biggest mistake people make when trying to cover something up,” Tracy says, “is swiping the makeup on instead of stippling it.  Stippling is lightly dabbing or tapping your makeup on, instead of doing a sweeping motion, which actually wipes off your makeup.  I like to call this technique, “hit that zit”. Stippling creates a layer that you can then cover with a bit of powder.”

Tip 3: How to Choose the right colour for filling in your brows

“If you have dark hair, your brows should be 1-2 shades lighter”, Tracy advises.  “For lighter hair it’s the opposite.  Go 1-2 shades darker.  I find that pencil or powder looks more natural.”

Tip 4:  How to apply blush naturally

“There are a few things that are key to making your blush appear natural.  Choosing a blush that has a bit of brown in it will appear more natural.  Apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks, and then blend out towards your ear.  Do not go any higher than the top of your cheekbone.”

Tip 5:  How to Apply Eyeliner in a Straight Line

Tracy's mantra: "Keep your strokes fine, if you want a straight line!"  Most people try to draw one solid line in one pass, but that is actually harder.  Doing several short strokes across the lid will achieve one straight line.

I use Visine on my blemishes under make up and it works. I learned that trick while modeling.
