Man Repelling Makeup, Bright Candlelight, & More
This week on the Style Collective we had a good laugh at some of the beauty habits we women love and men love to hate. A much safer area (we think) is home decor, and we gave some thought to adding some small touches like intricate candle holders or using wallpaper in an unexpected way.
If you haven't checked out the hilarious blog The Man Repeller, consider this post on all the beauty looks that turn men off to be the gateway drug of blog posts. From fluro nails and nail art to the ubiquitous top knot, Beauty Editor gives some solid reasons why men dislike many of our beauty loves, and what hair and makeup looks do attract them. Do you agree with her list? Have any of your own to add?
We admit it, we have a candle addiction. We buy tea lights by the hundreds and hoard them in a closet, so afraid are we of ever running out. This beautiful Tom Dixon candle holder we spied on Gifted will justify our tea light hoarding as we'll want to constantly imbibe in its delicate etching and geodesic shape.
If your lips are still suffering from the effects of the drying winter weather, in a never ending quest to find soft lip salvation Beautygeeks has a lip butter to try. With natural, nourishing ingredients like shea butter, cocoa seed butter, mango seed oil, and more, as well as a natural sunblock due to the inclusion of zinc oxide, these balms come in sweet flavours and will run you under $10—sweet salvation indeed.
Whenever we're reading The Style House we marvel at the cool DIY projects posted. This week, a unique idea for using wallpaper to line a cabinet has us eyeing one at the antique shop down the street and dreaming of what beautiful patterns would look perfect draped within.
What did you read online this week that got you thinking?

I'm going to have to be honest and say that many of the styles that the article says women love are not styles that I personally love. There's a disconnect between what we like on trendsetters or worn by confident women among us and what we claim we love during Oscar season. On the red carpet, we tend to go catty on stars that take fashion and beauty risks, preferring instead the safer, more elegant looks as "beautiful". Do you know what I mean?
Oooh me likey that wallpaper idea too!
