Oscar Night Fashion Recap 2011
The Academy Awards is The Event that showcases some of the most stunning fashions, and also some of the strangest choices. This year there were a lot more show-stoppers than flops.
Reds
Anne Hathaway in ‘Archival’ Valentino was the youngest host in Oscar history. Her gown's bustle was adorned with beautiful flower detail. Jennifer Hudson blew the red carpet away with her show-stopping tangerine Versace gown paired with diamond bangles.
Last year's Oscar darling Sandra Bullock sizzled in a beautifully structured strapless Vera Wang, while Penelope Cruze sparkled in L'Wren Scott. Hard to believe she just had a baby!
Glitz and Glamour
Fashion icon Gwyneth Paltrow made a big statement in a Calvin Klein Collection metallic dress, accessorized with gemstone earrings and brooch. Amy Adams also chose L'Wren Scott with her midnight blue sequined gown. And Hailee Steinfeld kept her red carpet winning streak in this classy sequined dress by Marchesa.
Halle Berry in crystal and organza tulle dress by Marchesa is covered up but still looks sexy and sultry. Hilary Swank wowed in Gucci Premiere Couture.
Purples
Scarlett Johannson wore a lace-wrapped amethyst Dolce & Gabbana, while Black Swan castmates Mila Kunis and Oscar-winning Natalie Portman were stunning in Elie Saab couture and Rodarte respectively.
Flops
We love Helena Bonham-Carter for her risk-taking, but this time she stuck to basics in renaissance-inspired black. Marisa Tomei did take a risk in vintage Charles James, but we weren't feeling the large tulle layers and unfortunate sweetheart neckline.
Reese Witherspoon looked a little too 'Barbie at the Prom' in Armani Prive, while 'Winter's Bone' actress Jennifer Lawrence's Calvin Klein Collection gave us a Baywatch double-take. Nicole Kidman went for a structured and daring Dior gown... but once again we were not thrilled.
Whose Oscar fashion did you like best?

I normally do not like feathers but I actually *love* Hilary Swank's gown!
@Ashley: get it on girl! Black Swan is a must-see!
Jennifer Hudson was by far my favourite. I thought she looked absolutely gorgeous! I was really not a fan of Marisa Tomei's choice, and does anyone remember the blue dress Anne Hathaway finished the show in? I loved most of her dresses and thought she looked fantastic throughout the show, but that royal blue rubber looking dress I was not impressed with!
The post is very informative. It is a pleasure reading it. I have also bookmarked you for checking out new posts.
I thought Natalie Portman looked soooooo gorgeous, as did Mila Kunis! I can't believe I still haven't seen Black Swan!
Standouts for me were Mila Kunis, Scarlett Johannson and Halle Berry. I didn't see Penelope Cruz on the carpet but looking at the pic of her here, she looks stunning!

@Ali- lol @ the 'Gwyneth Paltrow as the new singing sensation' comment. Yea, her voice actually did surprise me a little (I was expecting it to be REALLY bad), but it was alright. By no means is she a Carrie Underwood, but she held her own. Another surprising stage act was Mandy Moore for me- where has she been?
Anne Hathaway always looks stunning in red! I also love Mila Kunis in that light purple - but I agree with you ali, I could do without the lace. I'm really disappointed in Reese, it looks like her and Jennifer Lawrence forgot what year it was, these look out of date by 5-10 years.
@Ali - agreed, Cate Blanchett made a very ... interesting choice. Did not like. |
