Plan Your Canada Day Party On A Budget

Champagne cocktails + fun extras + a killer outfit + ambiance + entertainment + fabulous friends = ?  An amazing Canada Day of course! Here are five crucial categories every Canada Day party needs, and whether you're planning a daytime BBQ or a nighttime cocktail soiree, we've got your budget covered.

The Beverage (left)
The great thing about sparkling wine and—if you are really willing to spend—champagne, is the fact that you can drink it alone or mix it into fresh and light cocktails. I recommend a yummy Canada Day mimosa with some hors d'oeuvres!
$ Low: Spumante Bambino Sparkling Wine 1500 ml (C$13.45)
$$ Mid: Andre et Michel Drappier Brut Nature Zero Dosage Champagne 750 ml (C$42.95)
$$$ High: '00 Cuvee Vintage Champagne, Champagne Fleury & Fils 750ml (C$89.00)

The Extras (right)

Would any party be complete without some quirk and kitsch? Fun details definitely help to set a party apart and make it uniquely yours.
$ Low: Mountie Cocktail Napkins (C$5.00)
$$ Mid: iCon 3 Dip Bowl Set on Tray (C$33.00)
$$$ High: Custom Invites from Pistachio  (from about $13.00 for set of ten)

The Outfit (left)
You can't be a good hostess and look a wreck! Look your very Canadian best with these three options.
$ Low: Old Navy Canada Day Tees (from C$7.50)
$$ Mid: Canadian retailer Bedo carries easy to transition summer pieces: Snap Jumpsuit (C$44.95 on sale), Drawstring Jacket (C$59.50 on sale)
$$$ High: If you really want to support Canadian fashion, check out Ukamaku.com, an online retailer that specializes in independent Canadian designers: Desperately Different The Sonya Top (C$160.00) and Tara Pants (C$216.00)

The Backyard (right)

Create a fun and comfortable atmosphere with these three backyard additions, I would personally snatch up all three of these very useful products!
$ Low: Table Top Tiki Torch (C$14.97)
$$ Mid: Oversized Citronella Candle with Hudson Bay Stripes (C$25.00)
$$$ High: JRHOME Mocha Commercial Patio Heater (C$199.99)

The Entertainment
Get the party going, show 'em a good time and impress your guests with Canada themed entertainment.
$ Low: 2011 Juno Awards CD (C$12.99)
$$ Mid: Canada-opoly Boardgame (C$29.95)
$$$ High: Cirque de Soleil Totem Tapis Rouge Tickets in Montreal, Adult Ticket (from C$260.00)

Last but not least, you need your very best friends with you to complete the recipe for a Canada Day bash and at the risk of sounding like a Mastercard commercial, they are C$Priceless.

Here is an interesting question for the day: tell us what Canadian you'd most want to invite to your party!

Cute stuff. For entertainment I prefer to pay the extra money to see Cirque De Soleil, I think it's worth it!

@Takoda - I love John Candy too! Uncle Buck is my favourite of his films. He was so gregarious and warm.

I'd love to spend our Canada Day with John candy, but
sadly he's past on now. Our hole family loved him and were so sad when
he past. My youngest was still pretty young when he past and I remember
him looking up at me when he heard my husband and I talking about John's
passing and saying, ( Who's going to make us laugh now?) So if we could
invite him, John Candy would be the Canadian we'd pick for sure.
