Geekigirl Anita Clarke didn’t plan on becoming famous.  Her hit Toronto-based fashion blog had humble beginnings as a place to record the thoughts and visual inspirations of the day – but that was 5 years ago. Today, I Want-I Got has 50,000 monthly visitors, a healthy Twitter following, and is a fixture in the Toronto fashion scene.

ChickAdvisor: How has your blog affected your life?

Anita Clarke: I hate saying the word but it has made me a minor Toronto celebrity or what I like to call Toronto Famous.  It also opened doors to many places that I would never have access to.

Recently "wanted": Acne Fall 2010

CA: Who are your fashion icons?

AC: Fashion Icons from the industry would be the late Isabella Blow, Katherine Hepburn, Daphne Guinness.

CA: Do you have a favourite designer?

AC: Yves Saint Laurent.

CA: What is the most interesting experience you’ve had as a result of your blogging?

AC: By far the best thing was the Holt Renfrew Bloggers Windows.  It’s a total rush to have one of my favourite Canadian stores dedicate a window to me in their stores across the country.  I was in heaven for the duration of July, 2009.

CA: Do you have a guilty pleasure?

AC: Bad action movies.

Have you met Anita yet?

I love her eye! I wouldn't buy some of the fashion she picks. but they are all visually stimulating and I can appreciate it for a fun diversion. Good reading!

I first met Anita at Fashion Week when I recognized her from her blog and went up to her and timidly asked, "Um, are you Geekigirl?". She laughed because it was 2006 - early days and she wasn't used to people calling her by her blogger name.

Most people don't know she has managed to build up her success while working full time in a completely different industry (banking!). Really impressive, Anita. Keep it up!
