Postcard from Napa Valley

Even if you aren't a wine lover, it's impossible not to fall in love with Napa Valley.  In every direction, over rolling hills is vineyard after vineyard.  Add to that Palm and Cyprus trees, a good measure of lemon and lime trees and rose bushes everywhere.  It's pretty much perfection.  And the food.  I can't even speak about the food.  But since we're talking about wine country I will share plenty of pictures, which will do a better job.

Where to Stay

If you want to wake up with a view of the vines versus being in an urban area like downtown Napa, I'd recommend St. Helena, Calistoga or Yountville.  It is not cheap, but well worth it.  We stayed in St. Helena at The Harvest Inn, a magical property hidden away from the main highway by beautiful landscaping and a lot of trees.  It's a collection of cottages, some with fireplaces and balconies overlooking a local vineyard.

The Scenery

I can't say anything worthy of the sites so let's just look at the pictures, shall we?

The Food & Wine

I gained weight on this trip but it was worth it.  Check out my restaurant reviews for:  Farmstead, Boon Fly Cafe, Cook and Gott's Roadside.

Tip:  If you are visiting the area, I highly recommend you get reservations for the private wineries in the hills where you can sample the best California has to offer for Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel.  Because it is by appointment only, it's more of a VIP experience.  Often you can sit outside with a view of the valley while they bring the tastings to you.  Can you imagine anything better?

I'd love to hear your recommendations if you've been to the area.  Please add your reviews and make a comment!
