Many women in the working world are now being treated as equals to their male counterparts. With passion, determination and knowing your craft - women can succeed in business.

Jennifer Botterill, forward for Hockey Canada National Women’s Team, has proven why she belongs playing with the best, having four Olympic medals and five World Championships under her belt.

“This sport has grown a lot, but even with many sports it’s just the challenge of having equal opportunity and finding the right places to play,” says Botterill. “When I was younger, girl’s hockey was sort of just starting. It’s fun to see today, that girls, even at the age of 5 and 6, have lots of different teams they can play on.”

Unlike other countries across the globe, in North America women have optimal opportunities to have the careers they want. Botterill also had a back-up plan in case the hockey career isn’t long-term - she attended Harvard University and got her degree in Psychology.

“It’s different in every culture, and that’s why I think we’re pretty fortunate compared to other societies in the world,” she says. “Whether your other interests are in art or music or in fashion or whatever it might be, being involved in sports can also be a great option for you too.”

Botterill says she represents women who push their limits day in and out. As corny as it may sound, it’s about pursuing your dreams and striving towards your goals.

“We’re all going to face challenges and there’s going to be days that are demanding,” she says. “But throughout the whole process it’s so important to believe in yourself and no matter what field you’re in, I feel that those things ring true.”
