Red Carpet Celeb Makeup Trends

Often a barometer of how the runway translates to the mainstream, celebs show us what's really on trend right now. Last fall, New York Fashion Week predicted bold lips, strong eyes, and natural nudes (a.k.a. makeup-that-looks-like-you're-not-wearing-any-makeup).

While we've certainly seen all of these trends well represented, the front runner at Sunday night's Oscars was simplicity: accessories, hair and make-up all emphasized "less is more". Natural beauty was the focus, thanks to a simple light coat of mascara, touch of liner, natural rosy cheeks and neutral-glossed lips. Hair also kept with this simplistic trend, as Hollywood's elite looked dashing with their simple 'dos.

But for everyday...natural beauty is great and all, but colours are so much fun! :-) We all can do minimalistic natural beauty when we're older (and bright colours look garish). I think Cate Blanchett looks younger than Gwyneth here, but I can't decide if it's due to her warm goldeny hair colour (compared to Gwyn's cooler shade) or the little extra colour on the cheeks and lips.
