Red Carpet Fashion Recap 2010
Red carpet fashions are an infusion of classic looks and true Hollywood glamour -- this season’s fashion trends include jewel toned colours and varying shades of gold. Drew Barrymore donned a nude one-shouldered dress by Atelier Versace at the 2010 Golden Globes, while at the 82nd Academy Awards Sandra Bullock shimmered in silver Marchesa and Miley Cyrus was regal in a metallic champagne bustier gown.
“I think (this year’s trends are) a great departure from the expected up-do with a frill gown,” says ET Canada’s Cheryl Hickey. “Women are stepping out of their comfort zones and pairing things together that are not so traditional.”
White gowns are a force to be reckoned with. Meryl Streep wore a stunning white draped Chris March gown at last night’s Oscars. Kate Hudson, also loving white, showed off her backless Emilio Pucci gown at the 2010 SAGs.
Another red carpet craze: strapless and one-shoulder gowns accompanied by chic accessories. Penelope Cruz wore a deep red strapless Donna Karan gown during the Oscars with diamond drop earrings. French actress Marion Cotillard brought elegance to the SAGs in her Elie Saab one-shoulder dress. A gold clutch, emerald green ring and white platforms completed the look.
Lara Spencer dolled-up her white gown with a fuchsia clutch, and matching blue necklace and bracelet. Alyson Hannigan accented her black dress with a silver bracelet at the 2010 People’s Choice awards.
When all else fails, go classic. For men like Hugh Jackman, a dark coloured suit with a white shirt and no tie is timeless. Sophistication oozed from Cameron Diaz and her strapless beaded Oscar de la Renta gown at last night’s Oscars.
In the 'What Not to Wear' category -- Streep in her Balenciaga dress and Barrymore was a fashion faux pas in her two-tiered Monique Lhuillier gown, both at the 2010 SAGs.

Here is a great online gallery of all of the dresses:
Sandra Bullock looked marvelous. Which was nice after her Golden Globes purple flop. Miley Cyrus needs to learn how to STAND UP STRAIGHT. I loved Cameron Diaz in her gold gown! Kate Winslet played it too safe for me. Yawn. (I missed Demi Moore. Will have to find pic online)
I actually feel that Meryl should win everything there is to win. I just love her. You know when you watch one of her movies that her performance will be flawless. I thought she was hilarious as Julia Child. Especially the voiceovers where she is narrating in the background. I imagine it would be hard to deliver those lines without laughing given the way she had to talk. Now I'm anxious to watch some of the films that I haven't seen yet that did well.
I totally echo what's already been said - Sandra, Kate, Maggie, Demi, and Cameron were spectacular! But I really loved Meryl last night, maybe because she usually underwhelms? She was so gorgeous and graceful!
I agree. Sandra Bullock just looked so bold and beautiful. Maggie was glowing and daring with that hot pink lippy. And yea, this is the best i've seen of Kristen Stewart and Miley Cyrus. I also though that Rachel McAdams and Cameron's dress was stunning.
My favourite dresses at the Oscars were Kate Winslet, Sandra Bullock (wasn't her hair amazing too??), Maggie Gyllenhaal, Demi Moore, Kristen Stewart and yes, Miley Cyrus. I also thought Meryl Streep looked amazing. White/cream looks so good on blondes. |
