Red Carpet Recap: 2011 Golden Globes Fashion
The Golden Globes kicked off 2011's 'Awards Season' and all eyes were on Hollywood's glitterati last night. With gorgeous colours, bold shapes, and beautiful embellishments, the stars showcased fabulous new trends and delivered the eagerly anticipated headscratching fashion choices we love to goggle over.
Colour Trend: Rich Dark Hues
Both Catherine Zeta-Jones (in Monique Lhuillier) and Mila Kunis (in Vera Wang) offset their gorgeous olive skin-tones in rich emerald greens with intricate rouching. Amy Adams wore a strapless blue Marchesa number with laser-cut details on the bodice, while Olivia Wilde wowed in a stunning ombre-sequined Marchesa gown that she wisely paired with casual styling and minimal makeup... and then there were the shoes!
Colour Trend: Honeysuckle Pinks
This year's It colour had a strong showing: Sofia Vergara accentuated her curves in Vera Wang cinched at the waist with a black belt. Best Actress Winner (for mini-series or made-for-tv movie) Claire Danes looked fresh and elegant in her simple Calvin Klein dress, while Julianne Moore took an edgier approach in her asymmetrical Lanvin gown styled with a statement Bulgari necklace and tasselled Gold clutch.
Colour Trend: Blushing Neutrals
In contrast to the bold colours we saw from others, the blush-toned neutrals were less memorable; however, it was a strong trend that we couldn't overlook.
Scarlett Johansson wore a 1970s-esque Elie Saab gown with butterfly sleeves, while Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham gave a similar look an edgier spin with a metal chain cuff and blunt fringe. Best Actress winner Natalie Portman wore Viktor & Rolf, and while the look is softly maternal, we couldn't help feeling a little let down.
Bold Sleeves
Leighton Meester in Burberry Prorsum, Anne Hathaway in Giorgio Armani, and Angelina Jolie in Versace came with a bold new silhouette a la shoulder pads and full sleeves. As Anne and Angelina so ably demonstrated, this is a trend where you really should go bold or go home (sorry Leighton).
What The…??
Helena Bonham Carter was deliciously done up in a Vivienne Westwood dress we feel hypnotically mesmerized by, accessorized with mismatched Christmas-coloured shoes. Heidi Klum should have said 'Auf Wiedersehen' to her confusing Marc Jacobs number, while Elizabeth Moss' Donna Karan dress - well, there are no words, are there? Lea Michele gets an honourable mention for her bedskirt-turned-prom-dress we can't help but feel would have been more forgiveable had she chosen a richer hue.

My top looks: Mila Kunis, Leighton Meister,Scarlett Johannson. In that order.
The shoes ARE incredible... Oendrila did you find a price on those?
@dolce_belissima: these fabulous shoes were designed by none other than Christian Louboutin. Brillaint!
Olivia Wilde's Shoes were Insaneeeee!! I am in love. Those must be McQueen's or Louboutin?
Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, and Angelina Jolie blew me away at the Golden Globes. They all looked so effortlessly chic! Sandra Bullock's dress almost looks like a saree, but I wish she chose a brighter colour as she looks a bit washed out. Heidi is always so fashionable on Project Runway, and at the Golden Globes she looked like she was waring rags! And Helena Bonham Carter...you know what...I actually liked the look. She's probably the ONLY person in the world who can pull off different coloured shoes at a Red Carpet event and still look cute and quirky.
I think Mila Kunis and Olivia Wilde look frikkin fantastic! And I LOVE Scarlett Johansson's dress! I agree on Natalie Portman, although awkward dress choice or not I think she still looked cute. I also agree with Lauren on Lea Michele, her dress had promise and was nice from the waist up but overall it was just kinda ... blah.
I think this was one of Heidi's worst award show dress choices. I usually love what she ends up wearing, not this year though.. Oh well, maybe she will redeem herself at the Oscars!
@mumaluv - You're right Angelina's eyes always look fierce but this colour makes them 10X more powerful.
I agree with most of your comments. I really love the blush coloured dress but yes I wish Natalie's dress was sans rose! Claire Dane's dress suited her perfectly! Simple and understated but completely elegant. |
