Refreshing Summer Drink: Tea Soda Recipe
The other day, I happened upon a tea shop right around the corner from CA HQ. I stopped and tried a white lavender tea soda. It was sweet, bubbly, refreshing and like a sparkling party in my mouth. What I mean to say is, it was super delish and I wanted more.
When I thought about what went into the tea soda, I thought: dude, I could totally do this myself. And guess what, I totally did. Tea sodas are crazy easy to put together and make an excellent summer beverage for after work and even your patio parties.
Here's what you'll need:
Sugar
Tea
Carbonated Water
How to get started:
With the sugar and tea you'll be creating a simple syrup. It's equal parts liquid and sugar, in this case, liquid being tea. I used a cup of each for this syrup. First, I brewed a cup of tea with two tea bags and let it steep for a good 5-10 minutes. Then I added a cup of sugar and stirred until dissolved.
When it comes to your tea choices, I'm a fan of any fruity or floral herbal tea. But you can play around with the flavours and try green teas or even blacks. Here are a few tea suggestions:
(clockwise from top left)
David's Tea Prairie Berry (C$9.50)
Herbal Infusions Wild Blueberry White Tea (C$11.50)
David's Tea Mango Madness (C$10.50)
Herbal Infusions Peach Oolong Tea (C$8.50)
In a tall glass with ice, add about 2 Tbsp of syrup, or to your liking (I have a sweet tooth). Then fill the rest of the glass with soda. I happen to be a proud SodaStream owner, but you could also use club soda.
Finally, garnish with fresh fruits, mint leaves or a lime or lemon wedge for a little extra kick!

Wow, I want to try this so badly!
I tried this and it was really good! I used some sort of asian peach tea and I substituted splenda for sugar but it turned out great, perfect for the hot summer weather I'm going through right now! Thanks for the idea!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I'm also interested in the Soda Stream. We usually buy San Pelligrino at Costco. Is the Soda Stream result comparable? We are kinda picky about our soda water. I don't like regular club soda, for example.
I've been checking out those Soda Streams at Canadian Tire debating if I should get one or not....These drinks look delicious and refreshing,I love anything with club soda in it.....Around here Italian Sodas are all the rage...There is a place in Nelson BC that makes the best ones!
