Remembering Yves Rocher

We were sorry to hear of Yves Rocher's death on December 26th in Paris. The entrepreneur died of a sudden vascular brain accident at 79. In commemoration, we've compiled a brief list of pivotal moments in his life that you probably didn't know.
  • From a young age, Yves Rocher assisted his mother in running the textile family business in his hometown of La Gacilly in Brittany, France.
  • In 1958, at the age of 28, he founded the first production site of the Yves Rocher Group in the attic room of his family's home.
  • He sold his first cosmetic construction, a cream based on the herb "ficaire," via mail order. He was the first of his country to sell cosmetics using the postal service.
  • In 1969, he opened the first Yves Rocher store in Paris, setting forth the first of his many success stories.
  • 50 years later, the Breton family enterprise is a multinational company.
  • His passion for La Gallicy's political and economic scene led him to serve as the village's mayor from 1962 to 2008.
  • In 1959, at the height of Brittany's rural exodus. Mr Rocher made the oath that «One day La Gacilly will be famous and prosperous». It is now a well-to-do economic milieu.
