Splurge or Steal? Chanel-Style Ballet Flats
I'm a bit of a ballet flat-a-holic. I admit I wear them far too often, but they are just so versatile, stylish and of course, a very Audrey Hepburn-esque shoe option.
Here's the classic Chanel shoe. Le sigh…
I've been jonesin' for a pair of those classic Chanel two-tone ballet flats for ages, but at about $600 a pop, the price just isn't right. So I went on a hunt and found the two-tone beige and black Chanel-style flats at much more appealing price points.
(1) Bloch $200 (pictured here in Black/White)
Bloch is known for creating high quality technical dance shoes, so their flats are made with the same comfort and foot support required by dancers.
(2) J Crew $128
I have a lot of faith in J Crew quality - it hasn't let me down yet, and I presume these flats are made with the same standards. As a bonus, these have an interior wedge to slightly elongate the leg.
(3) The Gap $49
The most appealing aspect of these is obviously the excellent price point. The foot is elasticized to add comfort, which is a bonus when using a typically stiff patent material.
Would you go for the Steal here, or is this style worth the Splurge?

Not my style at ALL, lol. But if I were getting another pair of flats, it'd be like Ali says. Just going for the steal. I wear flats a lot in the summer, and tend to wear them out pretty quickly. I couldn't justify paying something like $600 for a pair that are probably not going to last me the year. At most, I'd probably pay like $50. Generally I get mine for 19.99 or 29.99 at Yellow!

For some reason, I cannot justify paying more than 50$ on a pair of flats. I am just so used to wearing heels and just find more variety in style with heels, that I would rather splurge on heels. I would only pay more for flat boots..
@TOBeautyReviews - I agree you can't compromise on comfort, especially with flats. I have had a couple of issue with the arch in my foot (or should I say lack of) so it's important that I wear flats that either have some support or have room to wear inserts inside. A deal is great but you have to make sure it's a treat for your feet as well as your wallet.

I agree, it`s hard for me to justify splurging on a pair of flats but a pair like this would definitely get a lot of wear. I could make some room in my shoe closet for a pair of these babies :)
Good finds, Cathy! I'd pay $50 for the Gap ones as long as they were comfortable but for flats I usually don't like to pay more than $100 because it takes so little time for me to destroy them with my pointy toes. |
