Splurge vs. Steal: Illuminating Powders at 3 Price Points

Illuminators are fabulous products. They help to give life to dull skin tone and bring a healthy shine and sparkle to your face. Back in the spring, Mandy let us all in on her lastest beauty secret for glowing skin: her Guerlain Météorites Powder. I've seen Mandy up close, so I can vouch for her choice of illuminators; the girl knows her beauty stuff. Which is why I, like many of you chicks were so intrigued by this powder, only I don't think we were too enthused by the price point of C$67.00.

Which is why when we received the new Body Shop Lily Cole Collection into the office, I was pretty excited. The collection features an item called Puff on Radiance. In a little sphere shaped tub, the product comes with small beads and a puff to dust on the illuminating powder. Pretty cool, eh? Plus,it's at an even better price point of C$22.

Then, I was inspired by my recent makeup haul challenge to find a comparable illuminating powder at a lower price point, available at your local drug store or grocery store. I chose to go with Physicans Formula Mineral Wear Illuminating Pebbles Powder with actually looks a lot like the Guerlain product in colour.

1. Guerlain Météorites Powder For The Face (C$67.00)
2. The Body Shop Lily Cole Collection Puff On Radiance (C$22.00)
3. Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Illuminating Pebbles (US$13.95)

Are you chicks illuminator users? Do you prefer drug store or high end brands?

I've never even used one before, I've seen them many times but never taken the leap. I think I'm going to test it out now though. They're so pretty looking. :)

I use illuminators when I want to look a bit glowy. I'm still on the quest for the perfect glowing skin routine (glowing, not greasy which I end up with when I try the wrong stuff..anyways). Right now I use Bobbi Brown brick shimmer palette if I want a bit of highlight on my cheeks, and if I want an all over face glow, I mix my Tarte Iluminator with a foundation and apply.

They're both good, but not HG. Still looking for an illuminator to crown with HG status! I've tried Guerlain and it didn't look good on me. It didn't look glowy on me at all, it looked like I had sparkles on my face. Just goes to show how products can look different on different people, 'cuz it looks fantastic on Mandy.

I've tried the Physicians Formula illuminator they have a few different ones and are really responsibly priced and also hypo-allergenic.

I have always seen the Guerlain ones in Sephora but never bothered because my face is super oily! If i wore these, I'd be an oil slick by 5 in the afternoon! Haha :P

I'm curious to know which out of the three was your go to selection. How did the three of them rate up against each other?
