Staff Picks: Alexandra C's 5 Favourite Beauty Products For Summer 2011

Every summer has a different feel for me, and this summer has been all about pretty colours, playing with my makeup, and easy looks that don't take too much time—I am a busy lady after all! For right now, I am looking for products that I can go to without fail: A signature scent; long lasting, fun, colourful eye shadows; a quality blush; and a great looking gloss that fits in my clutch. These are the five products I have been using non- stop to create a cute look everyday.

1. Since trying Stila Convertible Color Cream Blush in Petunia, when I go back to using powder blush, it just doesn't feel right. The Stila blush feels light but at the same time it gives great coverage. It is really easy to apply too—I thought that cream blush would interfere with my concealer and foundation but it goes smoothly right over top.

2. On sale right now at an amazing three dollars, one of the Bath and Body Works Body Splashes are the perfect summer scent for the daytime. If you don't want a heavy scent to overpower you, these mists are perfect, and for a mist they are pretty long lasting. My favourites are White Tea & Ginger and Brown Sugar & Fig. And just for you readers, here is a little tip: I layer my perfumes with body splashes to create something different and new. They also help to give a scent more staying power.

3. Avoid the eye shadow creasing that comes with the summer heat with The Body Shop Eye Shadow collection. My favourite is 37 Pink Champagne. Application is a breeze since the powder is so velvety and the pigmentation is strong and long lasting.

4. Half lip gloss and half lip liner, Hard Candy Visibly Wet Lip Pencil is a cool combination that delivers lots of shine! Pencil glides on smooth and is a tinted sheer gloss. I love this because it is a great alternative to a heavy lipstick for summer.  And forget about sticky glosses, this pencil is lightweight. I like to wear Glamazon over lip balm for extra protection with a bit of colour.

5. I love cream eye shadows, when Revlon came out with Revlon Illuminance Eye Shadow, Eternal Summer in bright, popping colours—I had to have them. To avoid the melting that comes with cream shadows in the summer I have been layering them with an eye primer below and a sheer powder eye shadow over top. Summer time is the best time to have fun with make up and to experiment with colour and these shadows are perfect for that.

Let me know if you have any good beauty tips for summer!

I use cream blush several times a week and have not had problems with clogged pores. My faves are Elizabeth Arden's Ceramide and Mary Kay's Cheek Glaze, but I've heard amazing things about Giorgio Armani Blushing Fabric!

You just reminded me how much I love that cream blush!! I got a cargo blush/bronzer which I've been using the past little while, but I absolutely love Peony by Stila, I'm going to restart using it again! :)

Oh my, the cream blush looks really pretty. I've personally never used a cream blush before. Does it clog pores?
