Starbucks Unveils New Logo: Yay or Nay?

The evolution of Starbucks (the logo, that is)

The times, they are a'changing at Ye Olde Coffee Shoppe. 

Starbucks unveiled its new logo for 2011 yesterday... and understandably there's been a big reaction from the masses.  (I guess no one told them about that little problem GAP had a few months back?)

While simplicity in design is usually a good thing, it seems counterintuitive to remove the brand name.  Starbucks, we love your coffee but we're just not feeling this new logo.

What do you think of this redesign?

I get that they are trying to follow in the footsteps of companies like Nike, that are recognized worldwide by a logo that doesn't have their name, but it doesn't really say "Starbucks" to me now.

I don't really see the purpose in companies changing successful logos unless they are rebranding their whole image - otherwise it just seems pointless to me.
