Summer Drink Recipes: How to Make a Margarita in a Jar!

The only thing better than a margarita in the spring or summer months, is a margarita in a jar. My reasons are threefold; reason 1: It's in a jar, so it's fun. Reason 2: They can be prepped ahead of time, put in freezer and are ready to go when you need them. Reason 3: You can say it's a 'jargarita'.

I stumbled upon this 'jargarita' recipe on this blog and I when I realised that they were basically a cocktail on demand, I fell in love and knew I had to make some for myself.

I've mentioned before, but I'm not a big fan of a heavy alcohol taste so I tend to drink very sweet cocktails. So, for this recipe, the original called for a cup of a liqueur that I substituted with juice (I know, I'm weaksauce). Also, it's good to keep in mind that you should definitely play around with the flavours in this recipe. I went for a tropical fruit theme, but whatever you have on hand will work.

Step 1: Ingredients

Makes 12 8 oz jars, I used liquors that I like and that I had on hand, but feel free to mix it up with yours and choose the liquors that you like. For ease, I condensed this recipe and made just one jargarita. To make 12 jars, use large bowl to mix ingredients.

1 12 fl. oz. can frozen juice (I used a fruit punch)
2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lime juice
1 1/2 cups Tequila
3/4 cup Rum (I used rum, but original recipe calls for Triple Sec
1 cup fruit juice (was substituted for alcohol, original recipe used Chambord Liqueur
4 cups cold water

Step 2: Frozen Juice

In your large bowl, pour in the frozen juice mix.

Step 3: Juice and Alcohol

Add in all alcohol and juice components, mix.

Step 4: Lime

Add a bit of lime juice for some kick, stir well.

Step 5: Jars

After mixing all ingredients in large bowl, pour into individual jars halfway (it will expand so be careful not to fill too much).

Final Product

After letting freeze, take out and with a fork, mix or mash the frozen margarita to get more of a slushie consistency. You can also let it sit for a while so it melts a bit and you get more juice. Once finished, sit down and enjoy it!

So tell me, how will you be enjoying the warm weather (once it gets here)?
