Summer of Beauty: New Products for Acne, Anti-Aging and Healthy Looking Skin

You may remember, that it has been my goal this far, to start coming up with a routine to look fabulous everyday. So far, we've covered how to get those coveted beachy boho waves in your hair and we've laid out a fashion plan of attack for every day of the week. But, what about all those pesky skin issues that pop up not just in the summer, but all year round?

Well, I'm hoping those stop here. To help on my flawless complexion quest, I've rounded up some awesome products for three key areas: ageing, acne and achieving healthy, glowing skin.

Acne and Blemish Control

1. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power Gel Cleanser (US$7.49)
2. Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 5 (C$8.49)
3. Lush Grease Lightning Tea Tree Spot Treatment (C$12.95)
4. Biore Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser (C$9.99)
5. Lush Dark Angels Charcoal Scrub (C$10.95- 26.95)
6. Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Blemish Stick (C$11.99)

In a nutshell, here's what you need to know about acne: it's caused by overproducing sebum. Sebum, is the oil secreted by your glands. With dirt and yucky bacteria added, you've got a pimple! To reduce acne, use a daily cleanser. I like to use something that contains least 2% salicylic acid. For more stubborn pimples, use a spot treatment that contains at least 5% benzoyl peroxide. This helps to dry the zit up; be careful though, too much will cause flaking, dry skin.

I've also previously mentioned how much I love the antibacterial properties of tea tree oil for a blemish. You can use it diluted with witch hazel, or alone underneath your makeup to help throughout the day. I've also recently come across the idea using charcoal to rid your skin of excess oil. Lastly, I can go on and on about the benefits of masks but I'll link you to this article instead. Clay masks made with bentonite or kaolin suck up all that oil.

Anti-Aging

1. Marcelle Gene Youth Youth Generating Day Care (C$38.95)
2. Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector (C$63.00)
3. Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector (C$100.00)
4. Rodial Dragon's Blood Sculpting Gel (US$95.00)
5. Lise Watier Age Control Supreme La Creme (C$78.00)
6. Olay Anti-Wrinkle Mature Skin Firming Cream (C$19.99)

Like it was mentioned in our article with 5 Simple Tips to Gorgeous Eyes, it's not too early to start preventing the signs of ageing. First and foremost, it's important to moisturize and to block harmful UV rays (but more on that later). Add an anti-ageing cream to your skincare routine now and as you age, change up the routine to adjust to your needs. Of course, you'll focus on wrinkle and line treatment but one of the most recent trends in anti-ageing is dark spot correction.

Healthy and Glowing Skin

1. Aveeno Fresh Essentials Nourishing Moisturizer SPF 30 (C$20.99)
2. Nip + Fab Pigmentation Fix (US$24.72)
3. StriVectin-EV Get Even Brightening Serum (US$69.55)
4. Yes To Cucumbers Daily Calming Moisturizer SPF 30 (US$14.99)
5. L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Day Cream SPF 30 (C$29.99)

If there's one thing I can drive home to you, it's use an SPF! I love a good sun bathing like anyone else but those sunburns add up. They can cause wrinkles and can do even more harm. In addition to SPF creams, glowing and healthy skin can be achieved by using a brightening product. You and your face will appear refreshed (even if you're still recuperating from a night out!).  Many of these products also do double duty and help to create a younger looking appearance.

Sharing time chicks! Let me know, what are some of your pesky skin issues? And how do you combat them?

I agree with Bren, I love Thursday plantation tea tree oil.. I also like to use the burts bees tea tree oil. Great for spot treatment during the day or at night. Another thing I like to use is the under eye roller. The aveeno one is great !

@Becky I actually just recently tried out Vichy Liftactiv, I like so far, it's very soothing and soft and I notice my skin does look more youthful or perky but long term wise, I am not sure it does very much yet, I'll need to test it out more I think!

Also @Bren and @Sirenstarlight Lush is fast becoming one of my favourites for skincare!

I have dull dry skin. Right now I'm using a cocoa moisturizer that is said to be rich in oils as a night cream. And i use vichy liftactiv as my day cream. Yea i know that's for 50 skin, but its really moisturizing, and its anti-agining, so it should be good, right?

I've never heard of the brand 'Lush' for acne!! I'm going to have to do some research!! :)
I swear by Vichy Normaderm for my acne.
I use the wash, toner, and moisturizer daily. They have a great mask as well :)
They aren't the only products I use, but they are certainly my favorite so far :)
I also have a prescription cream from the dermatologist that I use at night.
I'm nervous it will speed up the aging process but I was told that it shouldn't!

I think it's also important to mention that acne can also come from your hormones! Hormone imbalances can very well cause acne well into the adult years! I've suffered from this most of my life and let me tell you, I've tried a million and one different acne treatments! The only thing that has helped in the past few yrs is regular facials and birth control!
