Summer Skin Treats Round up: Masks, Scrubs and Peels

As Mandy and I both mentioned in our skin routine articles (see mine over here and Mandy's over here), we're big believers in skin treatments. By that we mean facial scrubs and peels and masks of all kinds. Personally, I credit masks with helping reduce my acne and I know Mandy swears by her masks to get that glowing and hydrated skin we all crave.

While there are a ton of products out there, we thought we'd round up some of our favourites. Whether you're looking for a deep clean, a moisturizing refresher or to exfoiliate, we've got you covered.

Refresh & Moisturize: These products are all designed to give your skin an burst of hydration or to replenish and brighten your skin. I'm especially a big fan of these masks in the winter when my skin tends to be dull and dry. Most of these masks are also excellent for mature skin.

1. Sephora Instant Moisture Mask (C$18.00)
2. StriVectin-SH Dermal Infusion Mask (US$69.00)
3. Radial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Mask (C$45.00)
4. Clarins Super Restorative Replenishing Comfort Mask (US$52.00)
5. Korres Wild Rose & Vitamin C Advance Brightening Sleeping Facial (C$62.50)

Deep Cleansing: These products focus on getting rid of dirt, reducing oil and helping to clear away acne. For the most part, when going for a deep cleansing mask, look for products with clay or mud components. These can be drying though, so be sure to follow up with a moisturizer.

1. Mary Kay Botanical Effects Mask (US$14.00)
2. Glam Glow Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask (C$78.00)
3. Dior Capture Totale One Essential Ultra-Detox Treatment Mask (C$100.00)
4. Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask (US$113.00)
5. Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask (C$26.00)

Chemical Exfoliants: These are peels or exfoliating products that help to clean and brush away dead skin cells, revealing fresh and soft skin. These are stronger and therefore, shouldn't be done daily but weekly or bi-weekly are excellent.

1. Dr. Brandt Laser A-Peel System (C$75.00)
2. Philosophy The Microdelivery Triple Acid Brightening Peel (US$68.00)
3. Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant (US$37.00)
4. Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment (C$25.00-C$175.00)
5. Ren Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask (US$55.00)

Physical Exfoliants: This refers to scrubs with beads or granules to rub away dirt and produce smooth skin. A cult fave is the microdelivery peel but physical exfoliants don't to be expensive. St. Ives makes an inexpensive scrub that can be used daily on non-sensitive skin and you can even DIY your own

1. St. Ives Apricot Scrub (C$5.49)
2. Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream Rinse-Off Formula (US$18.50)
3. Origins Modern Friction Nature's Gentle Dermabrasion (US$26.99)
4. Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser (UK$14.25)
5. Philosophy Microdelivery Peel (US$68.00)

I had a chemical peel with Private Health Care. I suffered from really bad skin and tried all the home remedies and creams. I am so glad i decided to opt for surgery.

Our customers LOVE the Glam Glow Mud Mask! I use it personally love how it makes my skin feel! I have VERY sensitive skin and use it at least twice a week. We are recommending for all of our brides to use it the day of their wedding.

Great Article ladies! The lady I get my facials has told me I need to start using an exfoliator, but she had mentioned the Apricot scrub is not good for your skin because the grains are too rough and could damage your skin? have you heard this before?

Great article!

Ladies, I'm trying a new product.... and i'm SOO excited over it!! I've mass-texted all my friends about it and as soon as I have a proper few seconds I will upload a review.... it is SOOOO crazy good!!! It an extremely versatile product that can be used as a moisturizer for dry skin, controls oil for oily skin, clears blemishes, evens skin tone, brightens complexion, no chemicals, purely organic one single product. 100% Organic, Argan Oil...!!! I have dry skin so imagine my surprise when i started breaking out like crazy on my cheeks cuz of the awfully hot weather!! I tried some expensive products and they "take time" for you to see the difference ... so I read about and tried argan oil. Today's only day3, and my pimples on my cheeks have gone down from being several raised painful bumps, to small bumps and the rest have gone away with only a mark left behind. I'm confident with continued use the marks will go away too. This is ONLY day 3!

My mom has cracked hands, like painfully cracked skin all over her hands that sometimes bleed, 'cuz she washes her hands constantly (clean freak, I'm tellin ya) and I bought her a bottle. Day 3 - her hands aren't cracked anymore. They're not cracked and dry anymore!! It's crazy! I'm sure with continued use her hands will look as great as the rest of her.

I'm soooooooooooo super excited about this product, you've no idea. I'll write a proper review soon .. but I couldn't help but give a mini review right here :)

Sephora sells Jose Maran's argan oil for about $65. The ingredients: 100% organic Moroccan Argan Oil.

I bought my Argan oil from Pharma Plus for $13. The ingredients: 100% organic Moroccan Argan Oil.

Yea... I'm a bit pissed at Jose Maran Co for this sort of unethical pricing. It's turning me off of all of their products.

Anyways ladies, try it out! :)

You should add some Artistry and Boot No.7 products to the list. I've tried many products from those lines and have yet to stumble onto one product that doesn't deliver.

Great list of products. The St. Ives Apricot Scrub is definitely a classic. That Glam Glow Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask looks interesting - might try it out.
