Summer Swim Trends: 15 Retro Swimsuits

Return to the Golden Age of Hollywood and when a Pin Up had va-va-voom curves accentuated by swimsuits with flattering ruching and ample seat coverage. Fans of retro suits don't have to be curvy to enjoy this style: the gathering of fabric over the bust, the high-cut waist on the bottoms of a bikini, both can help create a more hourglass shape on boyish figures.

Classic Old Hollywood glamour: Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe.

I always heard ruffles are great to conceal the lumpy areas, or give a tomboy-ish figure more shape, my main concern is whether or not ruffles can give off a less girly feel to the outfit!

I do love higher waisted clothes though, and often have a hard time finding one that will cover my thighs, which is an area I'm not particularly proud of.

I think it really depends on your body, as always. Since having babies, my tummy is not as taut as I'd like and has some small stretch marks, so a higher waist is really good for me. I think that the styles that have a sort of skirting coming down over the hips don't look good on women with a more generous bottom. Marilyn Monroe for example doesn't look as good as she might have in a higher cut style. Having said that, I'm pleased that there are so many options that are more of a panty cut or at least not sky high like Baywatch babes back in the day.

I personally love the salmon-coloured Melissa Odabash (top image, right side) and the black Calvin Klein 1-pc bandeau.

I love the Carmen Marc Valvo Retro One-Piece. Actually, I think I would wear all the one piece retro swimsuits! I guess I'm not into the two piece high waist swimsuits.

This is great! I love those sweetheart necklines (is that what they're called?) similar to the Aeron Rose one piece. Oh and by the way, Grace Kelly is a GODDESS.
