Summer Vacation Guide: Style in the City

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a hardcore Toronto Gal! However, sometimes, I do find myself drawn to history, tradition and of course poutine of Quebec or the easy going beach bums and mild weather native to Vancouver Island. This summer, I urge you to travel across Canada. You'll be surprised at how varied the culture is from province to province. Discover a whole new way of living on the other side of the country; as for your wardrobe, we’ve got you covered.

Toronto style is all about what’s easy, but that doesn’t mean frumpy. Light, airy fabrics are a must for Tdot's hot summers and we aren’t afraid to show a bit of skin! The perfect solution for Toronto is the romper. The great blue colour, nautical-esque stripes and the great neckline make for a throwback to a 50s playsuit. It would look fabulous with a pair of strappy, thick heeled sandals and a cross body bag wit woven detailing. Both of these are sure to come in handy with the amount of walking, shopping and sightseeing you’ll do here.

Oui, oui, bien sur! I like to think Montreal has a bit of an edge to it, maybe it’s a French rebellion thing. They have a different feel than Quebec city, which tends to err on the safer side of fashion. Ever the trend setter though, Montreal experiments with fashion. This leather vest is to die for, the flared cut is gorgeous and definitely unique. You’d have to be brave to wear this one so I’m going to go ahead and suggest you wear it with a pair of light denim cuffed, frayed shorts, wear it through fall with sheer hose underneath and a top it off with a cheeky French graphic tee.

Easy going beach bum with a bit of hippie chic thrown in for good measure for this Vancouverite outfit. This ensemble does double duty- perfect for shopping along the main street or on a beach in Tofino. The utilitarian inspired cargo leggings are comfortable without sacrificing style. Pair it with a cozy sweater, with zipper detailing for a windy beach day and don’t forget the accessories- they can make or break an outfit. Fedoras, patterned cross body bags, tribal or ikat printed accessories or feather earrings would all look amazing with this. I think a good knuckle ring is in order though, here are two inexpensive options.

What city have you always wanted to visit?

I love this! I always thought Toronto had a bit more of the indie vibe, but now that I think about it, it would be Vancouver, wouldn't it?
