I don't want to be 'that girl' but I have to bring the issue up... it's almost time for winter. Sure, cold weather isn't our favourite and salt stains, scratchy wool and static hair issues are a fashionista's nightmare but winter also has tons of good stuff about it! Think of holidays, snow and hot chocolate! As for the rest of winter, we've got you covered with ten gorgeous but practical winter coats that are sure to keep you looking your cutest!

Trends and What to Look for in a Winter Jacket:

Be sure to keep your eyes open for brights and patterns- something that shows off your personality and acts as a statement for the dreary months ahead.

Military inspired coats have been trendy for a while now, look for buckles, buttons details that give structure to a bulky coat.

Ponchos, capes and caplet shapes are huge for fall/winter this year- I love how comfy these coats are!

Leathers are always in- for a fresh take, try leather accents or shearling.

If you aren't into the latest styles, but like to look put together and chic be sure to try a winter jacket that cinched in your waist- this defines your shape and will make sure you avoid looking too boxy.

1. Talk about bold! This Joe Fresh Neoprene Coat (C$99.00) is not for the faint of heart but makes a great statement!

2. A personal fave, this H&M Imitation Suede Coat ($99.00) is a good length, with military inspired buckles and a high collar.

3. This Joe Fresh Belted Puffer (C$89.00) is a chicer alternative to a ski jacket and is belted to show off curves.

4. This Jones New York Classic Wrap Coat (C$199.00) is a basic camel colour but the clean streamlined cut is anything but boring.

5. Love the details on this double breasted Calvin Klein Officiers Jacket (C$149.99) - check out the collar, the button design and the shoulders.

6. This Jay Manuel Attitude Wool Coat with Faux Leather Contrast Sleeves (C$139.99) is the epitome of cool.

7. Because winter means being all covered up, try Old Navy Wool Blend Car Coat (C$109.94) in a leopard print to show off your individual style!

8. This Anthropologie Draping Shearling Jacket (US$368.00) has a fabulous leather exterior and comfy fur intreior- the cape inspired shape is uber trendy this year!

9. This Wilfred Cocoon Coat (C$325.00) looks so cozy and unique- love the elongating seams and high collar.

10. A coat for a Canadian winter- this Old Navy Long Frost Free Jacket (C$109.94) in a sophisticated taupe colour has a large lapel and a cinched waistline to show off your shape.
Mittens and Gloves.

4, 5 and 8 are my favs. 3 for the weekend.

A hot coat can totally make your look. All eyes could be on you as you make your entrance into a room from the outside cold.

After shoes and accessories, coats are one thing that I always invest coin in because they can be statement pieces.

Love #5 Calvin Klein Officiers Jacket! It's a classic style to keep warm and look good during the colder months.

I love #5, that CK one looks almost like a forest green CK jacket I talked myself out of a few years ago, maybe this is the time to correct that mistake.

Why is this the THIRD fashion write up about that hideous Joe Fresh coat? Their PR team must have been working wonders because, I love colour, but that thing is boxy and grossss.

Thanks for the ideas and inspiration, chicks! I am on the hunt for the 'perfect winter coat'. I've always had a crush on camel cashmere wrap coats (so I love this JNY one) ... but never owned one.
