Talking Fitness With Doutzen Kroes

Looking at Doutzen Kroes up close you are acutely aware that God broke the mold when He made her. No wonder Victoria's Secret tapped her as an Angel, her beauty is almost unbelievable in its perfection. So while she likely doesn't have to work out to keep her amazing figure, it's actually something she likes to do! We asked her about how she stays motivated and she tells us why even french fries can be okay (in moderation).

I understand that you love jumping rope and running, can you describe what your fitness routine is?
"I like to work out and my body just loves to sweat, I live in New York so in the summer I can go run by the Hudson River Park. I live close, so I like to do that. Sometimes, you get sick of being in the gym, you know? You just need some air. And then when I go to the gym I box and I jump rope, and for me it is hard. I try to do yoga too but it is hard to get into that quiet, and I don’t feel like I am exercising but I do that to just wind down and have a little bit of a balance."

What music do you like to listen to when you’re running?
"When I’m running, it’s a different thing than when I’m boxing or jumping rope, I need to listen to house music, it needs to be fast! For running, I listen to U2, Beyonce....who else? Adele, because then you can get more into like a dream, running through New York City and get into a vibe. Which I like a lot because I just became a mom and it is really nice to just take that time to just go running and you know, get away a little bit."

How do you stay motivated to work out? Are there mornings you wake up and you really don’t feel like going out for a run?
"Yes, but my motivation is how I feel after. Like, I feel so great after. And it’s true sometimes, I just said, my body loves to work out but sometimes it needs a little push. That’s why I like going to the gym with a trainer because then I have an appointment so I have to go. He doesn’t allow me to just call like an hour before and say 'I'm sorry, I can’t go.' You know, he’s like, 'Okay, you better get over here.'"

As far as exercises that you do with your trainer, is there any one that you’ve done where you’ve really noticed a difference in your body?
"Yes, I think it’s abs. You know, I lay down and he pushes my legs and that is a great work out for abs. And balancing things, because when you balance you use all your muscles and it doesn’t put any weight on it but it just tones your muscle."

You’re using your core strength...
"But it’s true, it’s a big thing, I think 70 per cent of what you look like, is what you put in your body. It’s not just your work out, because if you eat all the junk and then you work out, it’s not going to make a difference. You should also eat in moderation. That’s what I do. I eat everything but I don’t finish my whole plate of french fries, I eat a few."

To satisfy the craving...
"Yeah, that’s what it is! Because I think you should not kill yourself with not eating any sweets anymore. You should just give in sometimes. Because your body just craves something and then it’s fine."

She is just so stunning. I totally agree with what she says about focusing on how you feel after the workout. That's the best motivation. It's also really great if you can get a trainer because like she said you're not going cancel when someone is waiting for you and you've already paid!

My motivation is how I feel after a workout as well. That's what motivated me to get up at 5:15 this morning to go to a spin class before work... I wasn't happy at first but now I feel great!

Totally agree with the moderation part as well. I'm not for throwing away food but if I do just HAVE to satisfy a craving I try to get the smallest portion possible and even share with a friend if I must. Then it's not so bad :)

This is quite motivational. I like the part where she said that her motivation is how she feels after the work out. That statement is so true and I can totally relate to it. After work outs, I feel so accomplished and it makes me feel proud of myself and happy that I have done it. I'm glad she pointed that out because I don't hear that much.

She's actually too perfect. She and all the other Angels who have graced the walls of Victoria's Secret. But it kills me that she doesn't need to work out, "her body just loves to sweat." I went to the gym yesterday and there's nothing body body hates more than sweat.
