The Cashmere Mafia
Photo credit: ABCHave you guys seen this show yet? I stumbled into it while flipping channels Sunday night and am undecided. At first glance, it is very much a Sex and the City wannabe - no surprise since SATC creator, Darren Star is behind this one too, but it is also kind of fun. The production value is really good and the cast is polished and perfect. Just the kind of shallow entertainment we Chicks take guilty pleasure in.
The premise: Four 30 - 40ish- something alpha chicks who have been friends since college support each other through the trials and tribulations of life and love.
The twist: Instead of obsessing over Manolos, these women are consumed with their careers. They are all successful executives living in New York City trying to balance marriage, kids and work.
The weakness: These 4 characters are just a tougher savvier version of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. They call emergency meetings (at lavish restaurants of course!) and prioritize their friendship above all else. The women are fairly cold and hard. They don't have the warmth of our 4 favorite girls. The men in their lives play a secondary role at best. Sound familiar? I'm not sure they can differentiate themselves from SATC.
