'The Hunger Games' Effie Trinket Inspired Cocktail

Remember a little while back when The Hunger Games was being all buzzed about? Apparently I had been living under a rock, because I was most likely the last person to have not read the book. But I did promise (pinkie swears!) that I would. Well chicks, I made good on my promise and I devoured the first two books in the trilogy. I have just started the third book so it is safe to say that I am hooked.

Tomorrow (the 18th), The Hunger Games will be released onto DVD and as an adult woman, I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I'm kind of super excited. But can you blame me? I think that this momentous occasion calls for a cocktail! We've got a fancy schmancy version of an old school Pink Lady cocktail today, in honour of one of my favourite characters, Effie Trinket.

Effie, like the cocktail is colourful and vibrant, with just a little bit of bite! If you want to go ahead and have a little Hunger Games viewing party, this would make the perfect cocktail for your guests. It's simple to make and doesn't require very many ingredients.

Here's what you'll need:

1. Lime juice (to rim glass)
2. 1 1/2 ounces of gin
3. 1/2 ounce grenadine
4. Lemon juice (to taste and also for garnish)
5. Sugar (to rim glass)
6. 2 ounce coffee cream

How to:

1. Rub rim of glass with lime and roll or dip in sugar to rim glass
2. Shake all liquid ingredients over ice (in cocktail shaker)
3. Pour into martini glass
4. Garnish with twist of lemon, or if you're feeling snazzy try a cherry or some orange peel

And there you have it. Your very own Effie-esque cocktail that any Capitol-dweller would be proud to drink! Let me know chicks, are you a Hunger Games fan? Have you seen the film or read the books?

So classy and elegant, love this. I have not read the books or seen the movie yet, but I am looking forward to it. Happy Friday all.
