The Hunger Games Inspired Make Up Tutorial: Cinna's Gold Eyeliner
The Hunger Games movie comes out in a few weeks and let me tell you, that movie is hot. Not just because it's one of the most anticipated films but also because of the cast which includes Mr. Lenny Kravitz.
I actually googled Lenny the other day and was astonished to find out that he is 47 years old! He still looks smokin'! In the movie, he plays Cinna who wears gold eyeliner. This look is definitely a bit O.T.T. (over the top) and kind of crazy but we've toned it down and made it wearable for you chicks. We've got to say, we're loving the glitter and glitz of the gold.
For this look, we're using Make Up For Ever Metal Powder in #1 (US$22.00). It's an intense, pigmented, loose mineral powder that we'll mix with Make Up For Ever Eye Seal (US$21.00).
When you're mixing a loose powder with a transformer to make a liquid liner, simply tap some of the powder onto a surface and add about two drops of the transformer to the powder. Mix with a brush. We're using a Quo angled brush.
Step 1: Gold Liner
This look requires a thick, gold line across the upper lid. It might look a bit messy, don't freak out just yet though. If you need some pointers on doing a sleek, cat eyeliner check out this tutorial here or try this easy trick. You don't need to wing this line out very far, just bring it across from the outer to the inner corner of your eye. The line should be thicker on the outer corner and should blend into the lash line towards the inner corner.
Over top of this, we lightly dusted on a sheer coat of the gold pigment to make it more natural and not as stark against my skin tone.
Step 2: Liner and Mascara
On top of the thick gold line, use a black eyeliner to draw a thinner line as close to the lash line as possible We used Maybelline EyeStudio Master Precise Ink Pen Eyeliner (C$9.29) for this step. A liquid liner is probably easiest to use since it won't smudge like a pencil might.
Lastly, we used a coat of mascara for a longer lashes with more volume and to widen and brighten the eyes, making them really pop. We used CoverGirl LashBlast (C$6.50).
Final Look!
What do you think of this makeup look? Is it something you'd wear?

@Patricia: yeah, the Book Club - we were excited about that idea but during the last 2 rounds most of the Club went AWOL and it was just a handful of us. I would LOVE to start that up again since I love our Chicks and our discussions! We'll keep it in mind for the future if more people express interest :)
Oh you look so pretty! The gold really matches your brown eyes. Thanks for the instructions. I sometimes use mineral powder because I like the vibrancy of the colours. I'm glad that you mentioned using a Quo brush. These brushes are awesome.
Very pretty! | |
Love the look! I am reading this book now! Stand by for review! So far it's great! Speaking of book reviews, what happened to the book club? This would be a great book for the book club! But I digress, I love the gold liner look. Great way to represent Cinna's over the top look!
You look incredible with this look and I love all of the Hunger Games hype! This is an awesome tutorial that I will definitely be trying out soon.
You chicks are too sweet! Thanks for all the lovely comments! I wasn't too into this look at first but I kept getting compliments on it all day! This really works for brown and hazel eyes!
Wow that really suites you Alex...Gold has never suited my skin tone or as Mamaluv mentioned it just doesn't suite blue eyes after seeing this I wish it did!
wow this looks gorgeous on you Alex! Love the gold liner and how it makes the eyes pop out. I love MUF products anyways but this is something I'll need to try.
I agree with @mamaluv - this look is great for green/hazel eyes... really makes it pop! Maybe silver for the blue eyes babes?
Toned down? What? I'd wear it to the office, to church, heck - anywhere! In fact, I already have :) Gold might be a colour that's best for light/medium brown or green/hazel eyes though. Blue-eyed babes may want to skip this one. |
