The "Newbie Mom" Girl on the Go: What's in Ali's Bag (plus enter to win!)
I have to admit it: I love my new job. While I’m still a regular part of the ChickAdvisor team, I now have a pint-sized Mini-Me in charge of my daily schedule. One who stops traffic with his bi-toothed grin and cheerful “Agoo?”
Once upon a time, my agenda was crammed with fashion events, work lunches, and sales meetings. These days my routine involves working frantically while the little guy naps, messy meals, long walks and meet ups with my baby mama friends to work out or take our babies to cafes (why give that up, seriously??).
Though I do wear my fair share of stretchy pants, I try to take it up a notch whenever possible. Dressing well really makes a difference, even if there is spit up in my hair. For a start, I love wearing dresses because it takes care of the top and the bottom in one which makes dressing easier and faster - two very important things when you have a baby who doesn't enjoy waiting while you decide what to wear. Footwear needs to be super comfy because I’m pushing a stroller around for hours every day. I've basically swapped my heels for cute little black flats.
Speaking of taking things up a notch, I refuse to swap a stylish handbag for a dowdy diaper bag. I recently bought a gorgeous new bag on my trip to San Francisco. It was 25% off so it would have been wrong not to buy it, right?
So what’s in my bag? Start with a whole bunch of baby snacks (some crumbled into the bag), emergency stash Starbucks serviettes, and single serve apple sauce cups to the following:
CoverGirl Blast Flipstick: My lips are always dry. I'm convinced they are addicted to lipstick or something. So a swipe of this is dual purpose since it also makes me look fresh and more awake than I am!
Tide to Go Instant Stain Remover: This is a great laundry saver and if I'm honest, it isn't always the baby who spills something. I like to keep this in my bag for those unglamorous moments.
Prepaid Coffee Card: I rarely ever carry cash, but it's hard to keep track of my bad habits if I use plastic for everything. So when it comes to coffee cravings, I'm all about those handy pre-paid cards. When that runs out I know I've hit my limit!
Journal: Though I use my smart phone for pretty much everything, I still like to keep a cute notebook in my bag to jot down ideas. I really like this one.
Goody Spin Pins: Having a baby seriously messes with your hair. It can change in texture, thickness, fall out and then grow back. So I always have some pins and elastics in my bag to keep my hair presentable.
Always® Radiant™ Incredibly Thin Liners: As a new Mom, I always keep an emergency stash of sanitary products in my bag just because I have no idea when my period is going to start up again. Did you know that even if you're still breastfeeding your period can start at any time? You definitely need to be prepared!

Love your collection Ali! I see a lot of similarities with my bag!
I got the mini spin pins because they were on sale and they did not hold my hair up at all. I thought it might work since I have very thin hair but even after putting 2 in (one on top of the bun and another at the bottom) it wouldn't hold. I'm still interested in trying the regular ones tho!
GoneBatty, I haven't tried Spin Pins but when I had long hair I used the previous incarnation of this product called Hair Scroos. My hair is super fine and thin and the scroos barely held.
In addition to the basic diapers, wipes and feeding supplies, my diaper bag also contains a travel size hand sanitizer, a change of clothes for baby, a baby toy, travel size baby wash and lotion, a clean shirt for me (learned that lesson the hard way--mega spit up, no clean shirt, and nowhere near a place to buy one), granola bars for me, a book or magazine for me and a fold-up shopping bag. What I really need to do is get a small clutch that goes inside the diaper bag so I don't have to carry a purse and a diaper bag!
I've never tried the Spin Pins myself, but I have heard a lot of great things about them! I also definitely agree with the prepaid cards - It's an amazingly great way to keep yourself on budget!
Spin Pins are fantastic! I can't believe it took someone so long to come up with the idea. Super super easy to use even for super thick hair like mine. I still need 4 long ones to do the job but it's way better than like 300 regular bobby pins. Go get some if you don't have!!
Love it how everything is multi-purpose! |
