Thrifting 102: Thrifting Haul!

Congrats! If you are reading this, it means you've graduated from Thrifting 101 and you've completed the pre-requisite to go on to Thrifting 102! In this class, you'll see the fruits of your labour as we do a major thrifting haul! Taking the pieces that we've bought, we will also work to put together some unique outfits.

Outfit 1: Purple Floral Dress and Gold Buckle Shoes
This dress was purchased at a rummage sale in Toronto for about $5.00; the shoes were bought at a Goodwill for $6.00. Here is an example of finding great pieces at unexpected locations- never overlook garage sales, church rummage sales and even craigslist!

Outfit 2: 60's Print Romper, 50's Bolero, 70's Knee High Boots
A mix of decades, prints and textures are used to make this look. In true mod style, this romper has cutouts in the side and a zipper up the front. Each piece in this outfit actually breaks one of my number one rules- don't buy it if it doesn't fit you. The romper is about four sizes too small for me, the bolero is too big and the boots a size too small. I have never worn any of these pieces which breaks my heart a little bit.

Outfit 3: Shift Dress, Seashell Purse and Pink Pearls
This dress reminded me of a classy and sophisticated Kate Middleton and it was bought for about $3.00 on a 50% off discount day at Goodwill. I love this minty/teal colour and lace is so feminine and sweet! I am not your typical classy lady though so I inject my personality in with a funky seashell purse that I bought (full price) for about $7.00. Remember to always make something your own- you can pull anything off if you look comfy and confident in it!

Outfit 4: 70's Nightgown, Leather Vest and Belt
This leather vest was bought at the same rummage sale previously mentioned, originally it was $20.00 but I bargained the salesperson down. The belt was only about $2.00 and the nightgown was about $4.00. I love buying vintage sleepwear. I will use them to sleep in but they also make cute slips underneath a shorter skirt. I love to wear these vintage gowns underneath an oversized sweater like a dress as well.

Outfit 5 and 6: Sequin Dress and Sequin Shirt
One style lesson I always abide by is: go big, or go home. If you're going to do sequins and sparkles, do them right! This dress which was around $10.00 and this top, around $7.00 are "intense", according to a guy who stopped me in class one day while wearing these. Sure, they might blind someone but isn't it impossible to be sad when wearing sequins? Your clothes should always make you happy.

What's the best steal you've ever gotten?

If it were up to me there'd be no malls...I love the thrift stores and know what to look for and have found soooo many great things! You don't need to spend a lot to look good, in fact, I feel the things I find at thrift stores you can't even find in the stores now, and looks so much better! :D

Alexandra you're so cute!! My best find was a pair of purple suede boots that I found from a flea market sale / fundraised at my school for 5 bucks!!! My boyfriend calls them loud, I call them amazing.

I also recently found a gray (H&M;) shirt dress at a garage sale for 5 bucks!
