Tip Tuesday: Four Uses for Tea Tree Oil

I've never been quiet about my love for tea tree oil. It's always in my medicine cabinet and if I'm on the go, I am sure to have a small bottle in my bag. Because it's an antiseptic and kills bacteria, it's so multi-purpose that you just never know when it's going to come in handy! While there are so many uses for tea tree oil that would leave my head spinning (including mouth wash apparently, but I don't recommend trying that at home because yuck), I decided to trim it down to my personal favourite four. Seriously, if these don't convince you that you need to go out RIGHT NOW and pick some up, I have failed.

1. Acne Spot Treatment: I usually dab some tea tree oil straight onto a pimple when it starts to form and as it heals. This can be strong though and leave skin flaky and dry, so you can also DIY a spot treatment for a more soothing remedy. There are some great store bought treatments out there as well, you'll find Lush Grease Lightning on my shopping list.

2. Toner: Tea tree oil is great for oily skin, but like I mentioned above, it's strong and can leave skin overly dry. Dilute it with witch hazel for a simple toner. You can also turn that toner into a scrub - here's how.

3. Dandruff Spray: Get rid of dandruff with a solution of water and tea tree oil sprayed onto your hair. Here's a how to! You can also find dandruff reducing shampoos with tea tree oil like this one.

4. All Purpose Infection Tackler: Okay, two slightly embarrassing skin conditions come to mind here. Yes, they aren't pretty, but ladies, we've all been there: warts and ingrown hairs. Because tea tree oil is a natural antispectic, it helps battle the infection when you pick away at ingrown hairs and it helps to tackle that icky stuff in a wart. I like to dab a little tea tree on the area and let dry. If it's a wart, cover with a band aid as well. You can include tea tree in a body scrub or an anti-bump spray to prevent in grown hairs as well, here's a quickie DIY. Just be sure to substitute lemon and aspirin for tea tree oil.

Here are a few of my favourite tea tree oils:

1. NOW Essential Oils Tea Tree Oil (C$11.99, on sale)

2. Thursday Plantation 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil (C$7.99)

3. Desert Essence 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil (C$21.99)

4. The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil (C$9.00)

What do you use tea tree oil for? What secret possible uses are there? Spill the beans below and let me know!

Tea tree oil is one of those staple products to have at home. I used to have really bad dandruff as a reaction to a new shampoo I used and this helped get rid of it.
