Tip Tuesday: Make This Lash Growth Serum

It always amazes me how much of a difference mascara makes. Eyes go from ho-hum to BAM! In your face! Having majuurr lashes creates larger eyes and puts the focus on those peepers. If only we woke up in the morning with mascara-like lashes all ready to go, amirite?! Well, actually, there may be something to it. While we've tried lash extensions and totally loved the results, extensions are not permanent and come with a hefty price tag. We recently heard about using castor oil for hair growth on your brows and lashesand did some digging to find this DIY lash growth serum (which you could totally repurpose to get Cara Delevigne-esque brows). It's packed full of oils and vitamins to promote growth and keep hair healthy. Ready to get fluttery, flirty lashes?

Here's what you'll need:

Castor Oil: Castor oil is easily absorbed into hair and skin, it contains omega 6 fatty acids, proteins and vitamin E.

Sweet Almond Oil: Sweet almond oil contains monosaturated fats, vitamin E, magnesium and calcium.

Vitamin E Capsule: Vitamin E is also great for healing scarring. It's an antioxidant that helps build and maintain healthy skin tissue.

In a small bottle or container with a lid, mix equal parts castor oil and sweet almond oil together, break a vitamin E capsule into the mixture. At night, use an old (cleaned) mascara brush to apply mixture (be careful not to over apply). Wake up and wash off!

Have you ever heard of this? Is it something you would try?

SAY NO TO VITAMIN E ON SCARS! Posting Date: 12/12/2005

Q. I'm a 4th grader working on a science project about applying vitamin E (topically) to scars. Is there any research proving that it heals scars faster if applied daily?

A. The idea that applying vitamin E oil to scars can make them heal faster has been circulating for decades. The little research that has been done does not support this claim, though.

In one study, patients were followed carefully after skin cancer surgery (Dermatologic Surgery, Apr. 1999). A moisturizing ointment (Aquaphor) containing vitamin E was applied to part of the scar while plain Aquaphor was applied to the other part. Neither patients nor physicians knew which ointment contained the vitamin E.

The scars treated with vitamin E did not heal faster. In fact, many looked worse. One third of the patients actually developed contact dermatitis (red rash) in response to vitamin E.
