Tip Tuesday: Your Simple AM and PM Skincare Routines

My morning and night skincare routines used to be quite the process. Just read this article from a few years back. Since then, I have been focusing on streamlining and simplifying. With a drawer full of half used products, I seriously needed to cut back. So I decided that my routine needed to fit into one clear travel bag and that all my products would be useful.

I now have my morning and evening routines down to a simple science. In the morning, I focus on prepping my skin for the day ahead with a good moisturizer and a sunscreen. In the evening, my skincare is all about cleansing, a heavy cream, a little wrinkle prevention and spot treatments if needed.

My AM and PM routines are both simple and easy and I use every product so that nothing goes to waste. Inspired by my own skincare overhaul? Thinking you need a focused skincare routine? Here's a quickie guide with some product inspiration to get you started:

AM Routine:

Your skin is clean in the morning and overcleansing can strip your skin. Instead use a gentle (or an oil control) toner. Follow up with a good moisturizer and an SPF. Because I am sooooo not a morning person, I also like to include a few freshening up type products that help wake me and my skin up.

1. Lush Tea Tree Water (C$21.95)

2. Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer (C$29.99)

3. CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF (C$14.99)

4. Olay Fresh Effects {Bright on Schedule!} Eye Awakening Cream (C$15.99)

5. RoC Retin-OX Correxion Smoothing Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer for Day (C$52.00)

PM Routine:

First things first: I cleanse my skin with an oil cleanser. These are amazing for removing makeup and are great for sensitive skin. Two to three times a week I exfoliate. Because my skin isn't battling the harsh, dry elements at night, I focus on heavy moisturization. I've also started using retinol products to help prevent signs of aging. Next, I might apply a zit zapping cream if needed!

1. Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Night Cream (C$29.99)

2. Bliss Micro Magic Spa-Powered Microdermabrasion Treatment (C$56.00)

3. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (C$22.99)

4. Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum (C$30.69)

5. Shu Uemura Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil (C$48.00)

What are your AM and PM routines like? How do they differ?

i just have a very simple routine and thus keep me regular in following it each day... mostly the usual brand works year round but often i like to try new things such as new cleansers or moisturizers and so on...

I have a very simple routine. In the morning, I usually just do my make-up. I use MAC Mineralize Foundation which includes a moisturizer and SPF 15. In the evening, I will rotate between washing my face with Clearasil Face Wash or a wipe that removes make-up and excess dirt/oil from your face! I have been trying to wash my face more often...but it is so much easier to go straight to bed instead!!

I have a bit of a routine.. not as in depth as a lot of girls, but not bare minimum either.

I tend to just do my makeup in the morning - because you're right, overcleansing doesn't help anything! No toners, no washes, nothing. If I'm super slicked (I'm usually not) I'll swipe a toner, but otherwise it's just the blank canvas. At night I wash my face with an acne wash because despite having dry skin I do break out often... I'll mask once a week and exfoliate with a facecloth daily unless I need to use a scrub. I tend to use the scrubs as needed, not according to any schedule. Lastly, I take off any remaining makeup with an eye makeup remover (all the stuff on the rest of my skin is gone by then so I just do my eyes) and add a moisturizer so I wake up to nicely hydrated skin.

I use a Garnier moisturing serum in the morning and at night, but also add in an SPF daily moisturizer in the morning (neutrogena) under my primer, and different eye creams in the morning and at night as well as a benzol peroxide treatment if necessary.
I noticed that if I drink 1 to 2 bottles of water within a few hours of waking up and getting ready for the day my skin looks a lot more glowy and plump, almost like a magic trick. I always forget how important it is to stay hydrated.

Pretty much the same other than the products I use and I don't a deep scrub, or a peel a few times a week at night.
