Toronto Fashion Week Fall 2011 Trends: Velvet
Velvet is a fabric as rich in texture as it is in history—iconic designers who were known to use the fabric to dramatic effect include Vionnet, Poiret, and Fortuny. That nostalgia is seen in the velvet used by designers for fall, in the rich colours and draping and gathering. In the looks of Jeremy Laing and Chloé comme Parris, the textile's equally gothic flavour surfaces, all dark and dramatic.

I like the Izma dresses, they are very classy. Not feeling the other ones though. But why do I feel like you'd need Izma's funky hairstyle to pull it off? And perhaps you'd also have to move to Paris.
I find this a much more difficult trend to get on board with. It can so easily go wrong. It's wonderful to wear and can be very flattering if done simply, but what if crushed velvet comes back? Please can someone make sure that doesn't happen?
My early 1990s wardrobe is screaming "toldja so!" right now from the dusty bins at Salvation Army. Oh well :) |
