Trending in Beauty: 3 New Cleansing Methods To Try

With all the beauty products out there, I admit that sometimes I find myself in a state of beauty ennui. It all gets to be the same after a while. Hydrating cleanser? Yawn. Been there, done that. It takes something really interesting and special to wake me up from this beauty product fatigue. With the new year upon us, I've been searching out new skincare products to shake up (and wake up) my skincare routine.

Oil Cleansing
Now, I don't want to scare you with my first one but here goes: oil cleansing. Yes, that stuff that you try so hard to get rid of might just be a great item to cleanse with. If you can hold off on the scepticism for just one minute, I'll give you the low down on the oil cleansing method (OCM).

According to theoilcleansingmethod.com, the basic concept of this method is that the oil you use to cleanse with will help to dissolve the existing oils clogging your pores. You can use one oil or multiple oils creating combinations to best suit your skin type, and then massage them into your skin. . A steaming cloth should be used to remove the oil after massaging. This type of cleansing may not be for everyone; while some people have excellent results, others report an initial bad reaction.

Hot Cloth Cleansing

Hot cloth cleansing comes with muslin cloths and is said to deep cleanse but still keep your skin hydrated and soft. The 'hot' part of the cleanser helps to open up pores. It's also excellent for removing makeup.

Powder Exfoliators
One of my more recent discoveries that I've been enjoying: powder exfoliators. You mix the powders with water to create a semi-gritty product that isn't too harsh and still works to get rid of dead skin cells. I've found that it's a good medium between the beads that are too hard and the exfoliators that barely feel like they've done anything at all. I don't know about you, but I like to feel like my cleansers are working away.

Here are a few of the products in these categories that I've become acquainted with:

1. Hot Cloth Cleansers: Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser (US$10.49), Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser (UK$14.25)

2. Oil Cleansers: Amore Pacific Treatment Cleansing Oil Face & Eyes (C$63.00), Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Treatment + Cloth (C$58.00)

3. Powder Exfoliators: Lather Facial Polishing Powder (US$11.00), Tatcha Polished: Deep Rice Enzyme Powder (US$65.00)

Have you used or would you use any of these cleansers? Do you have any others you love?

2-3 drops of my Josie Maran Argan Oil on my face at night has made soft, supple and radiant skin to wake up to in the morning!

I also use a cleansing oil to pre-remove my makeup and then rinse off the residue with another facial cleanser. Cleansing oils are great for frequent makeup wearers. Using an oil also makes my makeup removing process quick and easy!

I'm not so sure about using anything that has oil in its name on my skin. Only because my skin use to be very oily, but now that I'm getting older it's acting funny. At times its still oily, but others its dry. Although I'd be willing to try anything at this point.

I have tried a ton of different cleansers and exfoliators including hot cleansers by Olay, cleansers by Aveeno, Ole Hendriksen, Peter Thomas Roth, etc, and currently I'm loving Korres brightening cleanser coupled with my Clairsonic. Ah-may-zing. I kind of don't like putting on makeup after washing my face 'cuz my skin looks so good.

I'm open to trying anything but I have a bit of a problem with Josie Maran only because she charges like $60 for a bottle of Argan oil, and you can get the exact same bottle of argan oil ("100% pure organic argan oil") from any drugstore for about $10 a bottle. I know everything is marked up, but such an obvious mark up just brings the brand down in my eyes.

I use cleansing oils when removing makeup. I usually stock up when I visit my parents in Asia as they're much more common there (asian drugstore brands = cheaper then the Shu Uemura, MAC, or DHC oils). They literally melt the makeup off your face and as a waterproof mascara wearing it takes it all off without a problem. Plus it is super fun to emulsify them with warm water, they become milky and rinse all the makeup away, so cool!
