We Love Fridays: The Ugly Christmas Sweater

It's that time of the year again. Time to break out a favourite of grandmas and hipsters alike: The Ugly Christmas Sweater. That lovely, itchy knit jumper with the puffy paint, pom poms and maybe a reindeer or two is pretty much an essential during this season. In recent years, the ugly Christmas sweater has had a resurgence in popularity with the growing number of ugly Christmas sweater parties. And of course, if you get the chance to don a sweet sweater like that at a party, why wouldn't you?

Even celebrities agree with me!

I love the ugly sweater trend! I was going to get one for my dog, but my sister said I was going too far xD

I love them when others get the joke. Where I live, there would be too many people wearing them "for real" and they'd assume I am one of them. Not.

The key is to wear something that's super over the top, like the crayola-coloured ones on the bottom row of that last picture. When it's a sweater or cardi with fewer decorations it looks a little too much like festive wear, not an ironic statement.

We had a charity fundraiser last year and ugly holiday sweaters were the theme. People either came in them or bought one at the door. We raised funds for a charity that provides disadvantaged women with job training and new professional clothes and they loved the contrast.
