We Need To Discuss This: Cameron Diaz Tells Us What's Going On With Her Lady Business

I feel the need to tell you first hand, that I have weird feelings when it comes to Cameron Diaz. By that I mean, I think I kind of dislike her. When it comes to my feelings, she's on the same level as Gwyneth Paltrow. And DON'T get me started on her. So when I read that she had written a book focused on health called The Body Book, I was like: Ugh. Why? What does Cameron know about health?

Well, apparently, a lot. Or so she seems to. Among the very TMI moments in the book (she delivers a golden piece of info about period stains), she gives her two cents on how we should be, er, um, dressing up (?) our downstairs stuffs.

Here's what she had to say about the delicate area: "I hear that there’s a big fad these days of young women undergoing laser hair removal on all of their lady bits. It's a personal decision, but I'm just putting it out there: Consider leaving your vagina fully dressed, ladies. Let's be honest: Just like every other part of your body, your labia major is not immune to gravity. I know you may think you’ll be wearing the same style of shoes forever and the same style of jeans forever, but you won’t. The idea that vaginas are preferable in a hairless state is a pretty recent phenomenon. All fads change, people.” (via torontosun.com

This brings up some interesting questions for me. As a recent Brazilian introducee, I don't have anything against hairlessness. As a lazy person, I don't have anything agianst letting it all go 70's style. No shame, ladies. While I'm never a fan of people telling others how to look, I can appreciate the fact that she's trying to open our eyes to a new idea. That being said, I don't know if there's any validity to her statement.

Sidenote: Anyone surprised that Cameron rocks a jungle theme?

Now, I need to open this up to a group discussion. What do you make of this? Does Cameron have any authority on the subject? Are you pro-hair or pro-hairless? If you're brave, tell me what you try out in the downstairs department! Leave a comment and let me know!

I`ll just say that I treat my down there like «I do my wardrobe....stick with what`s popular, but no radical permanent removal...don`t want to be dated by my private parts :-)

Lmao!! I'd like to think it's a 'personal' preference! Lol! That being said, I am a shaver 'down there' to some extent, myself. Take the high inner thigh for instance. I shave that routinely. Otherwise, I feel I look like I've got Buckwheat in a leg/thigh lock when I'm stripped down & getting frisky with my husband. I guess I'd have to say I keep the 'trim' trimmed! LOL! Usually around Valentine's Day I also CAREFULLY take my razor and craft a heart shape. It's definately a mood setter if you know what I mean?? Also, I have an electric shaver, the one that has a 'beard trimmer' that flips up on the top to keep things nice and neat. I absolutely HATE razor burn so shaving everything bald is just not for me. I have done that, and I've gone the waxing route as well. Thru trial and error I have found that using the 'beard trimmer' keeping things neat, shaving the inner thigh and the occasional Valentine's Day shape keeps nasty razor burn at bay, is very hygenic, and I still look like an adult woman, and can wear a bikini with no problem. Like I said earlier, it's personal preference. Bald just isn't for me. Too much upkeep and too much razor burn! Lol!

I can't look at her the same again.
It's a hygiene thing as to why I go bare down there... ew. Just ew.

I completely agree with the trend's don't last forever.. For me, I prefer to go hairless (well, almost hairless) - I shave. Only for cleanliness reasons, not for appearance.

But -- Maybe if my vagina was on my forehead I would want it to look pretty, Lol.

The trend thing is definitely a compelling argument. All those women who had their eyebrows lasered off and tattooed back on are going to agree! For that matter, I know a lot of women who are struggling to repopulate sparse eyebrows after years of savage overplucking. No trend lasts forever.

I think laser hair removal is a life saver and a half when it comes to specific body parts (i.e. underarms, legs) but you're right--the whole hairless look is a bit of a phenomenon and there will always be varying views on it. I like to think I have the option to alter it at my will, depending on the season and my preference.

@Ali de Bold I agree with the tidy factor and you never know when you're going to want to go swimming! Personally, I don't usually go hairless, to be honest, I feel like it brings me back to the days long before puberty and I'd rather look like a woman.

I can understand why some women go completely hairless or wild and wooly. I prefer something tidy where you can still wear a bikini with confidence without the torture of a full-out brazillian. It hurts too much and I've decided it's not worth it.
