We Take the Katy Perry Dark Horse Cleopatra Look into Every Day Wear

Katy Perry premiered her video for Dark Horse and took on the role of Katy Patra. She is an absolute goddess and though I don't know how I feel about the chunky grills, we definitely loved her Egyptian make-up look. Of course, the exaggerated lines don't exactly bode well for the office, which is why we decided to recreate this look with a more wearable approach in mind.

Katy's look was done by makeup artist Jake Bailey using CoverGirl products. Check out the five easy steps to help you transform into an Egyptian queen. To avoid getting glitter all over your foundation start with the eyes first!

1. Use a black liquid liner to draw an intricate winged design around the lid. To tone it down simply follow the top lash line and create a wing effect on the outer lid.

2. Add some much needed sparkle shadow to add to the goddess look. Katy used Covergirl Shine Shadow in Gold Goddess for the center and inner lid and Ooh La Lilac on the outer corners.

3. While it was still wet, Bailey tapped on glitter for extra oomph.

4. To complete the goddess eye, add a strip of false lashes and two coats of Bombshell Volume Mascara.

5. Once the eyes are finished, he used foundation, concealer, blush and powder as normal.

6. The look is finished with lipstick in a blackberry hue - Euphoria by Covergirl LipPerfection, apparently it's one of Katy's faves!

1. After adding a winged line on my top lid, I lined the bottom of the outer rim with Maybelline ColourShow Kohl Liner in Vibrant Violet. I also winged the liner up to meet the black cat eye.

2. To blend the eyeshadow I added Sephora Baked Eyeshadow Trio in At duck to the centre of my lid and to trace below my brow bone.

3. To finish off my look I added CoverGirl Clean Glow Blusher in Peaches to the apple of my cheeks up to my temple. I also used Scandal Eye Retro Glam Mascara by Rimmel London to accent the dark eye and CoverGirl lipstick in Euphoria.

Here are the products I used:

1. I did a basic cat eye with a slight exaggerated wing

2. Then, over the CoverGirl Shine Shadows, I used my Too Faced 'A Few of My Favourite Things' palette in a gold and plum shade to set the cream.

3. I went over my liner with the liquid liner again and then added a lower line and extended it.

4. I finished my look with a swipe of lipstick and a few coats of mascara

And here is everything I used:

What do you think of this look? Will you try the Katy Patra eye?

using liquid eyeliner really makes or breaks this look - i think a pen would be best for the swirls and such

I feel like people forget that makeup is supposed to enhance your features. Not make new features. I don't think this looks good, unless it's halloween, you're going to a theme party, you're Katy Perry or your in a pageant and want the judges to see your makeup from 300 feet away. I think this look would make people look old and tired.

Not too keen on this look - It's a bit much for everyday wear. Katy pulls it off though.
