We Tried It: Magnetic Nail Polish

We first caught onto the magnetic nail polish trend last September when Nails Inc. came out with this instant nail art creator. We loved the idea, but we weren't too sold on the price at C$18.00. Sally Hansen has recently developed their own version of magnetic polish and when they sent us a bottle, we knew we had to test it out! Sally Hansen's version retails at C$10.00 and comes in eight colours, not too shabby!

We're predicting that magnetic polish will be this fall's version of last year's crackle polish. Not only do we have way more colours in this new style, but we're also seeing really cool magnetic patterned versions and magnetic polish in gel form (done under UV lamp). Check out these options:

1. China Glaze 6 Magnetic Polish Set & 3 in 1 Design Magnet (C$63.00)
2. Nails Inc. Fishnet Magnetic Polish (C$18.00)
3. Gelish Don't Be So Particular Magnetic Set (C$34.00)

The magnetic polish is pretty simple to use. Basically, the lid has a magnet built in and this is placed over the wet nail colour to create the magnetic effect. Here are more detailed steps:

Step #1: Paint a base coat then apply one coat of the magnetic polish. Let dry.

Step #2: Paint a second, thick coat of polish over top.

Step #3, 4: The magnet lid has a small raised edge, this should be placed over the cuticle. Bring down the lid, close to but not touching the nail. This should be done quickly, while the second coat is still wet.

Step #5: Keep the lid over the nail for 10-20 seconds, remove and you'll be left with a design! It should take a little bit longer to dry, then be sure to add a layer of top coat.

We're loving how simple this was! You're left with really detailed, intricate looking nail art and in only a few minutes. What do you think of this nail polish? Have you tried it? Would you ever try it?

I think this nail polish looks awesome on all lengths of nail, I have a few shades of the Sally Hansen and I love them.

I have a bottle by Sally Hansen in Silver. The nail polish DOES work, I just don't find the results as nice with the Silver. There's not enough contrast made after magnetizing and brighter colors would be more effective.
