We're Obsessed With... The Hunger Games
The other day we posted on our Facebook page that some of the Chick staff had just finished reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. We had a quite the response and even now when anyone in the office mentions the book, we start the discussion all over again!
Jenni says that The Hunger Games is the dessert to Harry Potter while Tammy believes the book has a raw edge unlike anything else she's read before. Tammy is also putting her money on The Hunger Games being "the next Twilight". Tammy might be right about that, The Hunger Games is being made into a movie and according to the IMDB page, it will be released March 2012. Newbie Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence known for roles in Winter's Bone and X-Men will be playing the main characters.
Now, confession time, I haven't actually read The Hunger Games yet. But- wait, before you get your pitchforks out, let me say that I promise to start reading it tonight! Deal? So, because I haven't started reading it yet, here is a brief synopsis via amazon.ca:
"In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the other districts in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death on live TV. One boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and sixteen are selected by lottery to play. The winner brings riches and favor tohis or her district. But that is nothing compared to what the Capitol wins: one more year of fearful compliance with its rule. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her impoverished district in the Games."

I won't tell you Becky. You'll need to find out for yourself but I will say this. The ending is bittersweet. That's all I'm going to say :P
Thanks Tammy! :) did you finish all 3 books? can you just tell me one thing? Is it a happy ending? I don't want a Fred to happen, you know what i mean? :(
As for the movie characters: I expected to be less "pretty" and 'done' looking, ya know? The girl for instance Kitniss is supposed to have unplucked brows, hair on her arms and legs, scars all over her arms, hands, face from all the years of surviving in District12. But in the picture above she looks gorgeous. flawless.. if she's that flawless now what'll happen to her once the' team' gets her to fix her up?
Haha yay Becky I'm glad you liked it! Happy reading!
The Hunter Games is just .... surreal!!!! It captures you and just brings you right into the book. I feel like I'm running along with them, hiding with them, trying to survive with them..just completely amazing!!!! It does have a raw edge to it. I wouldn't compare it to Twilight only 'cuz I didn't really like twilight much, felt it was too teenagerish. I didn't read Twilight the book so perhaps the book might change my mind?
I really enjoyed this book! Definitely recommend it!:)
@Becky, hahaha! My life ended after the last movie. :( I'm still mourning.
jskim07 & TammyK : ok girls you know my taste (being a huge HP fan and all) so if you say they're good, I'll believe you! I'm in the middle of reading a book right now (Beautiful People) but once I'm done I"ll pick up book1 of this series..lets see how it goes :)
Read the three books in a month, and thats only because I'm a slow reader.
@ Becky - I think this is actually more tailored towards girls since the heroine is a girl and is in her perspective. Try it out! |
