And when it's done in a subtle way, the effect can be really stunning (see the look on ChickAdvisor reader Kate here, taken during the Clairol Natural Instincts Challenge). However, many of the celebs who went for the trend tried a more obvious approach and I can see how you'd find that unkempt-looking.

I thought it was perhaps the economy making ladies stingy on hair colour!! Jeez... Now that I've google imaged it, I have to say I agree with mamaluv. Not a big fan on the look.. (I wasn't even when I thought it was caused by laziness/accidental!) Although few do rock the look, on most it just looks unkept imo.
