We're Reading: In Wintry Denial

With no major holidays in the short-range forecast, our blogger posse is pretending to ignore winter by previewing spring.

BeautyEditorBuh-buy Ombré, hello Hair that doesn't look like artfully outgrown roots

BeautyEditor's love affair with ombré is officially over.   The outlook for spring is tone-on-tone natural highlights.

I'm The It GirlRunway beauty from Ohne Titel, Marc Jacobs (both S/S 2011)

Besides the half-moon manicure, a second let's-give-that-another-try trend for spring is orange lips.  I'm The It Girl predicts why this time, it might actually make mainstream.

I Want - I Got
I Want - I Got previews the new Alexander McQueen objets d'art for Spring/Summer 2011.

The Style HouseLong, flowy and warm winter skirt - WANT

Finally, the Style House brings us back to reality with the fun side of winter fashion (and here you thought we were going to talk about those Jimmy Choo Uggs - no sirree).

Drew's ombre looked really good at one point - but this picture here is nasty. BeautyEditor said she thinks it looks best with a wave in the hair so that it blends best and I totally agree.

And those McQueen shoes are stunning!

@Becky - yes, it is purposeful! And when it's done in a subtle way, the effect can be really stunning (see the look on ChickAdvisor reader Kate here, taken during the Clairol Natural Instincts Challenge).

However, many of the celebs who went for the trend tried a more obvious approach and I can see how you'd find that unkempt-looking.

I swear I live in a cave!! "Ombre hair"!?!? You mean dark roots and light hair combo is done on purpose!? And it has a name!?!? I thought it was perhaps the economy making ladies stingy on hair colour!! Jeez...

Now that I've google imaged it, I have to say I agree with mamaluv. Not a big fan on the look.. (I wasn't even when I thought it was caused by laziness/accidental!) Although few do rock the look, on most it just looks unkept imo.

I actually love the Ombre hair. I think Whitney Port was among the top celebs who wore it exceptionally well. But hers looked much more natural that Drew B.'s, who went a little overboard on the contrast of colors at one point.

I agree with Beauty Editor in her article though, some of the celebs can rock the look better than others. In my opinion it looks ok if the two colours are closer in hue rather than Drew's look (above)- it looks like her hair has been dipped in bleach.

Me too. I wasn't so keen on it to begin with.
