The Scavenger Hunt - WINNER

"Geoff proposed a few days before Christmas. We had finished a lovely dinner at Blowfish when he suggested we take a walk. We ended up at Chapters (where we first met). He told me to wait in the magazine section while he went to the restroom. I knew something was up! My suspicions were confirmed shortly when I heard my name being called over the public announcement system and I was instructed to go to the front desk. Okay! Breathe! This is it? I was ready to scream YES! but in true Geoff fashion, everything had to be earned. I guess it was his last chance to play hard to get with me. ;-) At the front desk I was handed a red bag and inside was my first clue.

He had set up a SCAVENGER HUNT!

Clue 1: We've been through many challenges together and you've passed them all. So this last challenge should be an easy one: all you need to do is find me. Simply go to where we shared hot chocolates.

Off to the second floor I went. As I made my way closer to the next clue I heard our song (100 years by Five For Fighting) playing throughout the store. I picked up the next clue at the Starbucks counter.

I was having so much fun!!!

Clue 2: Congrats, you are one step closer! Now find the story of The Alchemist. Hurry, even though the song playing says 100 years, you must find me before it ends.

Geoff had given me that book on our first date. I still remember what he wrote on the inside cover: that life was about following your dreams and he wanted to share the journey with me. And what a journey our relationship has been to say the least! I found the next clue in a red envelop taped to the front cover of the book.

Clue 3: You are so close! Now all you have to do is descend like an angel down the escalator as you did the first time you found me and I'll be waiting in the same spot.

As I did just that I was extremely touched at the efforts he put into recreating our first date. I was overwhelmed with fond memories. This final clue brought me to the Chapters Lounge where it all began; a fateful meeting of chance four years ago. This time he was waiting on bended knee. And so our journey continues... As another chapter ends in this story we open a new one."

The Beach - WINNER

"The beach at winter time!? Sounds crazy to me! But on this day we went ot the Pinery for a winter hike, just me and my boyfriend. We are outdoorsy people and always go camping and hiking and exploring, so this was ordinary to me and I didn't know what was coming!

Our hike ended on the beach and it was so beautiful because the waves looked like they were frozen in time. We sat on a log and for a while we were so quiet we couldn't hear a thing. After a long silence his first words were "I lied"... he got down on BOTH knees and explained that he brought me to this very beautiful spot for a reason... to ask me to spend my life with him. I said "yes" right away but appearently it came out as a squeek because he had to ask me again! He stayed on his knees for a long time while it sank in.

I'm an island girl, born and raised in the Caribbean and lover of the sun, sand and sea. He is allergic to the sun and thrives in the dark cold winter.... so this proposal was the perfect mix for us... at the beach on a calm winter day.

Of course I tease him about getting down on BOTH knees.... he was begging ;)"

Honerable mentions:

Birks Blew It

"My fiance and I had been dating for almost four years, living together for about three of those. He decided to take me shopping to look at rings. As soon as we got to Birks, I immediately fell in love with what was the most beautiful ring I had ever laid eyes on. Of course it was very pricey and we left wondering how he/we could ever afford such a luxury.

A couple of months later, the phone rang one Saturday afternoon in October. I loked at the display, smiled and said "Michael it's Birks jewellers calling, I think it's for you"! His face dropped as he took the phone. It so happens that Birks ruined the surprise by accidently calling the wrong number and I knew immediately what was about to happen.

We drove to the mall together, he insisted that i wait in the truck. He returned with my ring and told me that I could have it if I would marry him. I was so excited that i used hand lotion and sanitizer to force it on my finger where it remained for the next year, for the simple fact that I couldn't get it off. He swears that his plan was to dress up as a prince on Halloween and propose to me. I don't believe him.

Here we are a year and three months later, anxiously awaiting our wedding day which is in just under six months, and we couldn't be happier."

He Took Back the Promise Ring

"On the evening before we were to leave for a 2-week vacation to Europe, out of nowhere he asked for my “promise’ ring back, which I had been wearing for years! He was pretending to be very angry about something when he asked for it back, so I didn’t know what was happening and started to cry.

Then he came back into the room and got down on one knee and said “I took that one away from you so that I could give you this one,” which turned out to be a much bigger ring of which he had personally designed the band of. Absolutely gorgeous!"
