Winter Beauty Survival Guide: Hair Care
Whether it's making your normally luscious locks do an excellent impression of straw or giving you a serious case of hat head, winter is not a good friend to your hair (or skin for that matter!). This is doubly true for those of us with colour treated hair. Add that daily wash and the heat from your curler/blow dryer/straightener and you've got a recipe for dry hair disaster on your hands.
We have a few tips to help you fight the harsh elements this season:
Don't wash your hair everyday: Use dry shampoo and put your hair up, away from your face on non-wash days. Over washing your hair strips it of necessary natural oils and dries it out. We think you could even get away with washing your hair every four days.
Try a hair mask: I'm a huge adovact of hair masks and try to use one at least every week. I've found they add a great moisture boost when my hair really needs it. Here's a DIY version with items you probably already have in your house.
Properly wash your hair: We recently stumbled upon this video which gives a new 'dry' method of washing your hair and it promises shinier, healthier hair. Also be sure to focus conditioner on your ends, not your roots.

I really want to try the Marc Anthony Macadamia line!
midnightsun2288, I just bought a dry shampoo by TRESemme', they make one for straight hair and another for curly hair. My hair's straight as can be, but I can't tell you how well it works yet because I haven't had a chance to try it out. I'll write a review for it as soon as I get a chance to try it and let you know how it worked out for me.
I've been using John Frieda's Frizz Ease and it leaves my hair so soft and smooth. It smells amazing too, since the hubby even commented on the smell.
@Alex, Yeah I meant that your supposed to wash your hair with just conditioner, no shampoo (or so I've heard). Right now I use a "conditioning" shampoo as well as a conditioner, so I might try it out.
@midnightsun2288 I've never heard that you aren't supposed to use shampoo on curly hair! Maybe just not so much shampoo and maybe skipping a shampoo instead of washing everyday? I think the dry method should still work though. Also, I have been told before that instead of washing with shampoo, you can just wash with conditioner because that does have some soap products in it as well. I think no matter what, it would just be important to go with a non stripping shampoo.
I have never heard of the dry hair washing method. Do you think it would work on curly hair, because she uses a lot of shampoo and I heard your not even supposed to use shampoo on curly hair. |
