Winter Fashion Look Book

It’s getting a little nippy out. However, that doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice warmth in the name of fashion. You can look good without your tooshie freezing.

This winter, the militaristic look has resurfaced with fabric folds and sculpted contours. Fashion maven Jeanne Beker says this includes “a lot of double breasted and things that have very clean, very structured lines.”

That being said, there’s been a trend towards unstructured coats. Capes, ponchos, cloaks, shawls and pashminas are all part of that look.

“(They’re) wonderful pieces that can go over jackets ... layering is very hot again ... so we’re really walking both sides,” says Beker, host/segment producer of Fashion Television.

Leather is also making a huge statement with items like Danier’s winter Goddess Coat or their Glamourous hooded jacket.

“There’s a tough chic look going on again that we haven’t seen in quite a few years in fashion, an edgy kind of look that’s really hot,” she says.

Nothing says glamour like fur. Harricana produces alternatives such as their luxe black fur vest from recycled fur. They transform vintage coats into ready to wear fashion items.

The world of fashion has seen the return of the Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman thigh high boots. Yes, they’re back ladies. From lace-ups with buckles to thigh high leather plain boots like these from Browns, it’s about what you feel good in.

“I think if you’re going to be wearing an over the knee boot you have to have a wardrobe that goes with it,” says Desiree Tillie, Geox’s buying and merchandise manager for North America.

If you’re a little bit more adventurous but don’t want to go over the knee, try the new ankle booties like Geox’s sexy leather high heeled Hermosa or their Shearling flat boot that resemble the warm, yet comfortable Uggs. A very casual boot for a certain kind of look.

“It’s a trend I think will stick around for quite a while ... it’s kind of like when crocs happened,” adds Tillie.
