Winter Skincare Survival Guide: My 4 Must-Haves

| Thursday January 6, 20115 comments

Winter has barely begun (officially, anyway) and my skin already feels like it has gone through months and months of cold and dry winter weather.

I have combination skin where my T-Zone is often oily but my cheeks and undereyes get quite dry and flaky.  I may love winter but my skin definitely disagrees.  That's why when the weather gets colder, I transition to products that keep my skin glowing and flake-free:

(1) Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream US$24.50:  This cream is rich yet not very heavy which means that I can wear it day or night.  Best of all, a little goes a long way!

(2) Josie Maran Argan Oil C$48/US$48:  Great stuff.  Seriously, great stuff.  Made from 100% all natural fair-trade argan oil, this product is excellent on days when I feel like my skin needs a little pick-me-up.  It goes on smoothly and is instantly absorbed by my skin.  For combination skin, I focus on my cheeks, decollete, and undereye area when applying.

(3) Smith's Rosebud Salve C$9/US$6:  I keep a tin of Smith's Rosebud Salve in my pocket or in my handbag year round.  It's a truly multi-purpose product I can use to banish dry skin patches, dry cuticle, and dry hands in addition to soothing dry lips.  Bonus: it is taste- and scent-free.

(4) L'Occitane Milk Extra Gentle Soap C$14/US$10:  The smell is oh-so lovely and reminds me of the French Countryside.  It lathers up nicely and has a super gentle formula means which means I can use this both on my body and to remove stubborn eye makeup without drying out sensitive skin.

What are your go-to products this winter?

I have been suffering tremendously from dry, cracked skin this winter (more-so than usual actually. I guess it should be expected in the middle of winter in Canada!!). I just hate the super moisturizers that leave the skin greasy while hydrating. So, I think I will give the Argan Oil by Josie Maran a chance! The Rosebud salve would be nice for chapped lips too :)

I might see if I can find the L'Occitane Soap and the Rosebud Slave, my skin has been feeling super dry this week and I feel like I am putting on hand cream every half hour (Aveeno just isn't doing the trick right now)

Great suggestions. I would have to add SkinFood by Weleda to my list also. It's a really versatile product.

My BFF uses the Rosebud Slave all the time! It smells so lovely. I was considering getting one cause it's good for chapped lips, cuticles, dry skin, etc.
Hmmmm

I've never tried anything from Kiehl's but lately I've been really interested in checking them out. This face cream isn't bad but I noticed online that some of their items are quite expensive. For anyone who has tried the brand: is it worth the cost?
