Yay or Nay? Taylor Swift's NYFW Style at Rodarte
Taylor Swift attended Rodarte's Spring 2012 collection show at New York Fashion Week and she was in good company - also in attendance were Elle and Dakota Fanning and Beyonce and Solange Knowles.
Taylor may have snagged the best parking spot however, seated next to Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. Swift wore a long-sleeved lace and crochet midi dress from Rodarte's Fall 2011 collection.
The waist cinching detail and the flared hemline on the dress flatter her figure - there's the good news! I don't think I'm wild about the sleeves and the high lacy collar: a little matronly?
Dakota Fanning wore a similar dress to the same event but pulled it off because of a shorter hemline and skipped the sleeves. Maybe Tay's recovering from her Marilyn Monroe-style wardrobe malfunction last month? We're also a little disappointed with her uninspired hairstyle.
While I usually love Taylor, this look is a nay for me! What do you think?

YAY? I would usually never go for something like this. But... I think Taylor could pull it off. I find it simple, classical and just a refreshing different look. Her makeup is subtle and the red lip is so chic and gives the whole outfit a "classical" effect. Over all I think not everybody can pull off this look but... I think Taylor did.

I normally love Taylor's style, but this is just.. eh. I completely agree with you and I'm not a fan of the sleeves and lacy collar, but from the waist down, it's actually pretty cute!

I vote Yay! | |
ps. I actually really love her makeup here. Love the natural flush with the vibrant lips. Looks very sweet and innocent with something extra. :-)
A perfect example of too much of a good thing!! Lace all over doesn't look good imo. I actually like sleeves and chest area lace. I don't like the big V collar. Or even the small V collar at the top. Wouldn't this look so much better if she had the lace thingie for shoulder/chest and arms, the lace should stop at her cleavage in a straight line (no "sweetheart" necks) and the rest of the dress was made of a different more vibrant material and colour? Who designs these things? Sheesh... a gorgeous girl, good occasion, totally wasted. Her stylist needs to be changed. Unfortunately a nay.
NAY! Don't like this at all. I definitely think it's great she's branching out with new styles but I'm not crazy about this. I feel like the dress (at least in the 1st picture) is exactly the colour of her already VERY light skin. She looks so monotone. And the style I just don't like.
Agreed! I cringed when I first saw these shots of Taylor. I love her and her feminine dresses are usually adorable and stylish but I am not a fan of this ensemble. Maybe with a shorter hemline and perhaps some more daring shoes? (You can't see them in this pic but in others I have seen, they're pretty much the exact same colour as the dress...) |
