A few things I learned in the Paris of South America in no particular order:

1. Argentina is beautiful and the people even more so. I've never encountered a warmer culture. Everyone is so kind. Despite the bustling cities and crowded dangerous roadways, people are genuinely sweet here.

2. Just because our dollar is worth nearly 4 times the peso, doesn't mean you should buy as much as...

Merry Christmas, Everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful holiday with your families and friends. We are celebrating Christmas in Argentina with Alex's family and their tradition is to eat dinner late at night and then at midnight pop the champagne and open a gift to celebrate the moment Jesus was born (Argentina is about 80% Roman Catholic). Private fireworks go off in neighborhoods all...

This is Cordoba. It's the 3rd largest city in Argentina and it's where we've been staying for the past few days. Unlike Buenos Aires, it has a more intimate feel with pockets of small neighborhoods and a smaller downtown core. This view shows the major shopping mall, which of course you know I've already scoured. I'm sorry to report that shopping here isn't the greatest....

When in Argentina, expect to be surprised. For example:

This is the hugest tree I've ever seen. It's in Recoletta across from the huge and very famous cemetery.
Observe that the branches are so long, they are held up by wooden planks towards the ends.
Everyone eats ham. A lot of ham. One restaurant we went to didn't have a single sandwich that did NOT come with ham. Do you like ham?

I found them. I know where the fashionistas are hiding.

Actually it's more like, I now know where they shop. Argentinian women, I'm learning, aren't big on flaunting their wardrobes. Unlike our culture which is a fashion show/competition every day, Argentinians have more than their fair share of shops, but they don't seem motivated to show it off. Most opt for casual, comfortable...

I'm in Argentina. Buenos Aires at the moment! Alex and I have escaped the snow and swapped goose bumps for heat stroke this Christmas.

While my Winnipeg family is shivering in -40 (Celsius) right now, Alex's family comes from Argentina and we're here to visit them, get ill advised tans, and explore. We arrived on Saturday, slept the whole day and night and have spent the last two days...

Sitting at Café Flore in Paris on a Sunday afternoon, sipping on your tiny glass of jus d'orange, you look up at Sophie with flickers of pain and ambivalence in your eyes: "Just what exactly did we do this past weekend?"  She smiles over her cup of coffee, her tired eyes beam with delight at the memories racing through her head, "Well…"

In one day I went from cranky sleep-starved freelancer to an imbibing bon vivant in less than two hours. With compliments of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), a van full of Toronto’s top young food writers set off to Prince Edward County to experience pastoral life, VQA wines and conversation that questioned the existence of Lauren Conrad’s ghost writer over boxed suppers from Pinch...
