I used to work at an Ardene store. If you care at all about the environment or the ethical treatment of animals DO NOT SHOP AT ARDENE STORES.
Environment:
Every item shipped from China, the Philippines, or India is either double or triple wrapped in clear plastic bags that are not accepted by any plastic recycling facilities (trust me I looked). ALL of that plastic is thrown out. At least a couple big garbage bags stuffed a week.
Every item of clothing to be hung is shipped to the stores with a plastic hanger already attached. The hanger is used once and then thrown out. Depending on the size of the store hundreds of hangers are thrown out every week.
Ethical treatment of animals:
Recently, Ardene stores (including the one I used to work at) began selling real fur hair accessories from China. The Chinese fur trade is notorious for inhumane practices including skinning dogs and cats, cramming animals into excessively small cages, skinning animals alive, brutally beating animals, etc. There are no laws restricting what the Chinese can do to these animals and Ardene is buying into that market. It's just sick.
Sure the accessories are cheap but take a look at how Ardene chooses to damage the environment and support the skinning of animals for "fashion". Buying their products supports what Ardene is doing. Just don't.
