There's nothing special about the formula however, the brush did work for me. So what I would usually do is use the brush on another formula and it works fine. I have short, hard-to-curl lashes and the brush worked for me in that aspect. I have read other reviews and thought the brush was annoying but it worked for me. So I'd say how well the mascara works comes down to self-preference.    -
