Let me start off by saying that the only reason why I even bothered getting my haircut here was because my friend from work got hers done, and gave me a 50% off coupon. I'm a college student, living on my own, so 50% off a professional salon... +
Let me start off by saying that the only reason why I even bothered getting my haircut here was because my friend from work got hers done, and gave me a 50% off coupon. I'm a college student, living on my own, so 50% off a professional salon wash/cut/style that's usually only $50 sounds a lot more reasonable than some other places in this neighbhourhood (cough, one place (that I will not name) charges $240 for the same thing o_O). My friend's hair was fantastic and she couldn't stop raving about how excellent the stylist was.
From the time I called to make the appointment to the time I left the salon, I kept becoming more and more impressed. The receptionist is simply lovely, the stylists are wonderful and full of personality, and the owner is the nicest most down-to-earth guy I've ever met. He was actually the one who did my hair, and god damn he was probably the best hair stylist i've ever had. I trusted him enough to let him do his thing, and boy am I glad I did. My hair looks absolutely fantastic. Easily the best haircut i've EVER had and it only cost me $25. He even told me to come back and they'd do my bangs for free!
Unfortunately, I was so distracted talking to him that I completeeeeely forgot to leave a tip! I felt like such a jerk, especially since I'm so super impressed with my hair. I'll have to make sure I tip him double next time, or maybe bring him something to say thanks :)

I went in there for the first time, and the girls were so helpful and never once did I feel like they were pushing me into buying something I didn't want. The girl who helped me was so so so honest, and I really appreciate that. I really wish I had asked for her name, because I can only refer to her as "the short girl with the really awesome hair" The prices aren't bad, especially for the brands you're buying, and the sales rack was fantastic! I definitely recommend it! -
Bloor Jane Restaurant
After hearing loads of comments about how "great the Bloor Jane restaurant is" and how "their breakfast is the best for miles around" and "their milkshakes are fantastic" etc etc, my boyfriend and I decided to take a bunch of our friends and go. And... +
After hearing loads of comments about how "great the Bloor Jane restaurant is" and how "their breakfast is the best for miles around" and "their milkshakes are fantastic" etc etc, my boyfriend and I decided to take a bunch of our friends and go. And oh god, it was AWFUL.
It wasn't terribly busy and we were seated right away, but the waitress barely paid any attention to us at all. I had this irking feeling that because we were young she didn't want to deal with us, even though my friends and I were more than polite and patient.
The food was terrible. The plates were dirty. I asked for milk, a pretty common breakfast drink, and she said they were sold out. I asked for orange juice and she said they were sold out. I asked for any type of juice and she said there sold out... I eventually asked for water (something i figured they'd have). My friend settled for a can of soda, but when she politely asked for a glass, the waitress acted very rudely to us as if we were greatly inconveniencing her by serving us. The prices WOULD have been alright if it were not for the horrible quality of the food. My friend ordered fish and chips and not only was the fish still frozen, but we saw the cook dumping out a bag of Highlander frozen fish and McCain's fries into the deep fryer... If I can go to No Frills and buy it myself for less money than you're charging to make it, I'm not comin' back.
I'm usually a very optimistic and open-minded person, who likes to try out the "hole-in-the-wall" type restaurants, and gives good reviews to less-than-good places, but this is something I cannot be positive about. I'm beyond the hope that maybe "she was having a bad day" or "maybe they hired new kitchen staff"... I was so embarrassed about taking our friends there and I will never ever come back.
